Man, Kamala really should have ran for CA Gov., could have really done some good and cleared the field, alas. It'd probably be better it if there was no 2028 run for President, though.

Funny family anecdote: my grandmother (whom I do not like due to reasons) iirc voted for the milquetoast center-left LGBT marriage accepting candidate in 2018's runoff because the other candidate was Protestant and this woman is Catholic through and through. Honestly so based (for once).

Anyways, we'll see, perhaps this is just jumping the gun (which I hope so). Marco Rubio como el gusano que es is surely frothing at the mouth and chomping at the bit, the fucking bastard.

Or the Americans win quickly (at least initially, not counting an insurgency) and these fascist assholes get a rare foreign policy 'win' to trot out and distract from their fuckups at a time when the knife needs to be driven deep into their ambitions to kill American democracy completely.

Mine own country one of the biggest culprits of sucking up to the Americans to my deep shame. Point is: either America gets in a protracted war that kills civilians by galore, further destroys what remains of the shambles of Venezuela, and sends the region into a tailspin with a new migrant crisis.

03.10.2025 06:20 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Brazil and Mexico and etc. may protest (rightly) but the Venezuelan government has few real friends and many countries in the region eager to send their migrants back to Venezuela in case the regime gets overthrown, so a good chunk will just turn a blind eye. A lot are just America's lap dogs too.

03.10.2025 06:17 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

If a U.S.-Venezuela conflict does rev up, and the Americans do not fuck this up more than they always do (which considering the bastards in charge is a less likely outcome), this is possibly the only conflict that has even a slight chance of not kneecapping them. There are no good outcomes really.

I wonder from a sort of detachment (to maintain sanity) who is more incompetent: the Venezuelan or the American government. On one hand we have the most kleptocratic corrupt tinpot dictatorship on the continent; on the other hand, it is still possible they give the Americans a black eye.

Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku is just so good man, feel myself grinning madly now that I'm rereading the manga from the point the anime left off of. GOATed, viva el romance!

Dandadan is just so fucking HYPEEEEEE! That ending scene lmao, anime-onlies will go nuts... Anyways, Science SARU you magnificent bastards, GOATs.

Even so, it feels a bit disheartening to not have a desk of my own so as not to study in my bed, to have to nag my father in order for him to pay his alimony (while he travels around the world), to know that things are kinda fucked back home, to eat rice by itself various times due to being broke.

It's a conundrum to be a downwardly mobile middle class person in this moment; in part it is my own pride to not accept my circumstances perhaps (like going to Subway a bit more often than needed, not helping that it is across the street). I recognize I'm still incredibly privileged, of course.

Dandadan is just so fucking good man, I felt so much cringe from Kinta but fucking hell this series never lets up, Science SARU knock it out of the park always, GOATed.

I will say, that even though I failed a Philosophy and History Seminary course in uni aborto 2 years ago, now that I'm retaking it I'm enjoying it again, led me down a rabbit hole into anarchist thought (interesting though in practice I still sustain the State), good to be an engineer w/ conscience

I instinctively understand English (tbf I was taught it from around 7 years old on); any other language I've tried to learn (unsuccessfully) is translated into Spanish (curiously I can more or less understand written Italian by its similarity to Spanish but it's also translated in my head).

My main complaint with Bluesky rn is that it's showing me accounts dunking on Arsenal when I'm clearly an Arsenal fan; in non-politics the algorithm is a bit strange it seems.

Nevertheless, in a globalized world autarky is willingly kneecapping oneself, so I may need to read some more in order to reconcile this fact with my preference for national control. It ties into many issues CR faces; not every solution fits all countries.

16.04.2025 05:32 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

The current Costa Rican administration has loosened tariffs on foreign rice, yet there seems to be no actual decrease in prices to make me trust in a general relaxation of rules; national production of rice as our staple food has gone to shit these past few years, so there seems to be few positives.

16.04.2025 05:29 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

It's weird how the current situation forces me to reevaluate stuff like trade; particularly in Costa Rica protectionism has been the rule of the land for decades and I don't necessarily disagree with its measured, but it's made us the most expensive country to live in Central America by far.

16.04.2025 05:26 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I wouldn't even have thought of this current administration doing so, it's all lickspittles. It would have to be a hypothetical Dem administration from 2029 on without an Ameri-maidan level event happening. Absent Congress reasserting itself and impeaching the mf, we're fucked for the meantime.

15.04.2025 01:24 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

This is a gross human rights violation, El Salvador is kidnapping foreign citizens, and no Condor redux must be allowed to occur once again without punishment. Much can happen till 2029, but El Salvador uses the dollar; use that, twist their nuts until they buckle in case Bukele is still in power.

15.04.2025 01:08 β€” πŸ‘ 13    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

As a Central American neighbor to El Salvador, I'd prefer it if the Americans used military power as their last resort, considering the shockwaves a Salvadoran intervention would send throughout the region. Nevertheless, of all casus belli, this is the one where America would be justified in acting.

Ah, thank you. Sorry if I came off scold-y. This is very considerate from your part, and it's good to acknowledge it.

14.04.2025 19:29 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Look, I gravely agree that a future American administration has every right to twist Bukele until he breaks; but I don't think it is suitable to joke about American imperialism considering the damage it has caused to Latin America for decades, nay, centuries.

14.04.2025 18:40 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

No more Condors; that includes American dissenters and American-residing victims to extend our empathy to. My country is complicit in the current American shame by hosting deportees, thereby staining our name. This growing authoritarianism cannot be allowed to keep taking hold in our region.

13.04.2025 22:33 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I dislike this discourse I'm preaching because in the end it implies an echo of American imperialism and arrogance in determining another country's fate, but this human trafficking endeavor happening at CECOT is unacceptable, Bukele an accomplice in fascism, and overall needs to be stomped down hard

13.04.2025 22:27 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Fwiw, I suspect any bitcoin crash or economic downturn coming in the next few years may end up destabilizing El Salvador enough to loosen Bukelismo's grip on Salvadorian hearts and minds, which opens up the options available in terms of allowing for a different sort of politics to emerge there.

13.04.2025 22:21 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Considering that for the foreseeable future (unless an Ameri-maidan happens) it won't be until 2029 at the earliest that such a thing can be possible; many things can happen in the meantime. I suspect the dollarization of the Salvadoran economy can be used to twist their nuts, so to say.
