If a U.S.-Venezuela conflict does rev up, and the Americans do not fuck this up more than they always do (which considering the bastards in charge is a less likely outcome), this is possibly the only conflict that has even a slight chance of not kneecapping them. There are no good outcomes really.

I wonder from a sort of detachment (to maintain sanity) who is more incompetent: the Venezuelan or the American government. On one hand we have the most kleptocratic corrupt tinpot dictatorship on the continent; on the other hand, it is still possible they give the Americans a black eye.

As a Central American neighbor to El Salvador, I'd prefer it if the Americans used military power as their last resort, considering the shockwaves a Salvadoran intervention would send throughout the region. Nevertheless, of all casus belli, this is the one where America would be justified in acting.

Look, I gravely agree that a future American administration has every right to twist Bukele until he breaks; but I don't think it is suitable to joke about American imperialism considering the damage it has caused to Latin America for decades, nay, centuries.

No more Condors; that includes American dissenters and American-residing victims to extend our empathy to. My country is complicit in the current American shame by hosting deportees, thereby staining our name. This growing authoritarianism cannot be allowed to keep taking hold in our region.

Fwiw, I suspect any bitcoin crash or economic downturn coming in the next few years may end up destabilizing El Salvador enough to loosen Bukelismo's grip on Salvadorian hearts and minds, which opens up the options available in terms of allowing for a different sort of politics to emerge there.

Considering that for the foreseeable future (unless an Ameri-maidan happens) it won't be until 2029 at the earliest that such a thing can be possible; many things can happen in the meantime. I suspect the dollarization of the Salvadoran economy can be used to twist their nuts, so to say.
