The funniest thing about me is that my autism egg cracked bc I was in the process of researching a link between anime fandom and autism for my anime blog, then an autism rabbit hole lead me to go, hm, those people sound just like me tho, is that really a disorder

I currently consider myself self-dx in ADHD but this is confirmed by family members who know me and who have the ADHD diagnosis themselves. The autism and ADHD traits gallop in my family lol. One reason I wasn't dx, as a kid, what is normal when you live in an "abnormal" family.

Self diagnosis is also important! I was self-dx a few months before getting an autism diagnosis officially and I was super relieved when they confirmed it! And I feel sad that not everyone has the privilege of access to therapy or professional diagnosis.

This turned out to be based on simple gender stereotypes. A girl who is quiet and plays quietly by herself isn't as noticable for concern as the same behavior in a boy, the designated "loud, active, and rambunctious" gender.

Yeah when talking about why many people aren't diagnosed as kids, one major issue is that girl kids were often overlooked, because teachers used to believe that autism was exceedingly rare in girls relative to boys.
