I am sorry to hear this. These volunteer academic experts have worked hard, motivated by a genuine passion to improve the quality of government statistics.
Quite the opposite should be occurring—academic experts could play an even more important role as agency budgets are reduced.

If you haven’t seen it: there is no clear evidence of a recent spread in freelance/gig work besides platform based driving.
And one needs to beware when trying to measure trends using self-reported tax data like form 1040 Sched C or SE!
