Frankly the problem isn't even that the trial showed up, it's their refusal to remove it followed by something that reads like "and if you keep making trouble about this we'll remove the entire feature" when all that was needed was an apology, swift removal & a 'report' button for future trials.

Guus, drijvende kracht achter #NietHersteld, sluit het podiumgedeelte af met een videoboodschap.

Guus kreeg long covid. Ze noemt 'de wereld van PAIS' een schaduwwereld waarin honderdduizenden worden vergeten.

"Ze proberen te schreeuwen naar de wereld waar ze ooit bij hoorden: help ons, zie ons."

We houden een minuut stilte voor de mensen met PAIS die zijn overleden.

"Vaak biedt euthanasie of een andere gekozen levenseinde de enige uitweg", zegt de presentator.

Ze drukt hoorbaar haar tranen weg.

De organisatie heeft werk gemaakt van de toegankelijkheid: livestream, NGT-tolk, stilte zone achter het podium. Veel aanwezigen dragen een mondkapje, er zijn zitgelegenheden en sommigen hebben zelf iets meegenomen om op te zitten.

Een medisch ethicus hekelt het 'bio-psychosociale model' van individualisering van medische problematiek vanuit de politiek en artsen: "Patiënten werd zelf de schuld gegeven van hun ellende. Dat is een van de grootste medische schandalen van de afgelopen decennia." Ze krijgt applaus.

Veel aanwezigen zijn hier namens vrienden, geliefden, familieleden. Hun afwezigheid is indringend voelbaar.

De sfeer in het publiek is moeilijk te omschrijven. Bij demonstraties overheerst vaak boosheid of strijdlust. Vandaag is er vooral saamhorigheid en hoop op meer erkenning.

De organisatie heeft 100 rolstoelen geplaatst met portretten van mensen met PAIS. Zij kunnen vandaag niet aanwezig zijn: velen zijn al jaren aan bed gekluisterd.

De installatie trekt veel bekijks. Erg mooi en indrukwekkend symbool.

Zo'n 600 aanwezigen (mijn schatting) bij @niethersteld.bsky.social -protest voor meer politieke, medische en media-aandacht voor PAIS: 'post-acute infectie syndromen'.

De organisatie zegt dat zeker duizend mensen 'online aanwezig' zijn: zij kijken naar de livestream op de website. 💪
