I'm really thankful for @akayawind.bsky.social's words on Monday that helped reframe this for me. She pointed out that fear makes us curl in and isolate, but joy opens us up so that we're able to connect with others! Joy is good on its own, but seeing it as an instrument of connection helped me.

Well the coconut memes were fun while they lasted. And I had fun canvassing with the Stop Cop City folks last summer, being ridiculous with petitions on sidewalks in 97 degree heat. We got goofy and it felt real and good.

I just got a book from the library called “Pleasure Activism” (I don’t know if it’s good! I haven’t read it yet!) - I’m realizing how shriveled up my soul is from never being happy or silly or joyful anymore when I interact with justice/ the world. I can’t sustain that. My body is built for silly!
