I have got to stop taking six hour naps immediately after getting off a red-eye.

It occurs to me, belatedly, that I should give credit where credit is due: the professor who showed me this kindness, and indeed many kindnesses over the years, was Ray Starr.

And I'd rather be gullible than whatever the alternative is.

This is just to say that if a student tells me a disaster has struck during finals, I'll believe them. Some things are more important that final papers.

My experience over the next 24 hours proved to me that, without a doubt, the greatest thing a teacher can be is kind. I emailed my professor, distraught, attached my unfinished paper, and begged his forgiveness. He emailed me back immediately to say I was exempt from the paper, and to go home.

By the evening of December 17th, I had one paper left, and my biggest problem was trying to figure out how to reign in my argument, because I was realizing (six pages in) that I'd set myself up for a 25-page paper, not a 10-15 one. Oops! Common enthusiastic student error! Then I got a phone call.

In 2015, my mom went into hospice during finals. It was my senior fall at Wellesley. I was taking five classes (two P/F, thank goodness), and I had never been more on top of my game. I had finished the work for two of my classes before the week had even begun.

Obsessed with this place. Visited twice in <24 hours for moringa lattes.
