First Of Too Many was the other album that came to mind for that "unrecognised 90s album" prompt, it's really fantastic. The band I played in at 6th form was pretty much modelled after them.

Everyone remember when the Church of England demanded that our brave English hooligans be allowed to vandalise European cities? Or the Catholic church coming to the defence of Italian ultras? This whole thing is beyond bizarre.

Anish Kumar - Everything Blooms Around Her (2024)

Anish Kumar had quite a few contenders for my list, but this one is irresistible. An Indian (or Nepalese?) folk song perfectly framed as a club banger.

Also, people have to work in open plan offices

The obvious one is Therapy?'s debut mini album Babyteeth. Chaotic and angry and mixing techno with grunge. Can't remember exactly but I think it was critically praised at the time but seems to have been forgotten again, probably because it's not on streaming.

This ended up being my only pick in Catalan (well, Mallorquín to be precise) but there'll be more when we get to the 10s.

MARIA HEIN - LA DAMA DE MALLORCA (2023)

It's our last day in Menorca so a song from just across the way. Take a traditional style and throw some beats and electronic production at it and it gets me every time.

I love this challenge for stuff like this, a song I liked enough at the time to nominate for a poll and then somehow forgot about it. Great stuff but just not enough slots on the list (HM though for sure).

Oops. Apparently this is what happens when you buy a cheap beach blanket and leave it out to dry but then it rains. Sorry hotel, your lovely terrace is now a fetching shade of blue.

Writers should be paid a (good) salary instead of having to rely on royalties. Publishers should be non-profits that spend the proceeds of terrible book sales on funding actually good writing.

White people who have spent decades thinking “Born in the USA” is patriotic and “Every Breath You Take” is a great wedding song are suddenly very concerned about not being able to understand lyrics to some songs at the Super Bowl halftime show.
