Writer. Former rabbi. One typo, and I could've been a former rabbit. Here for the conversations.

Literally no one has gotten social internet right since then. 25 years ago.

"This could never work in any city other than New York"
The reason I have never skied or learned to, even though I was a shliach in Salt Lake City for 3 years, is that the first thing I had to do there was visit the family of a kid who was lying unconscious in the hospital after a ski accident.

When I went to work at B&H Photo in midlevel management, I knew nothing about photography. When I left years later, I was a bit beyond amateur enthusiast and did my family's portraits nicely. Yes, I had advice from the pro photogs working there. It took TIME.

He was the one who taught me how to read science, to go to the journals, to sift through information, and ultimately to manage my health.
Had not paid attention to him in a long time, and of course will never do so again.
There's a funny Lubavitch sidenote to this!
For years, Lubavitchers would say that the Rebbe was a Sorbonne graduate. Turns out, he sat classes there, but graduated from an excellent Paris tech university as an elec engineer, which was then his Navy Yard job for rest of WW2.
True story: The Rebbe would dump a thick layer of salt on his fish, and he said it was out of gratitude, because he hid from the Nazis in a salt mine with his wife in Vichy France.
Salt saves lives.
