YouTube video by andrew867 Max Headroom 1987 Broadcast Signal Intrusion Incident

It's my favorite day! It's the 38th anniversary of the Max Headroom signal broadcast intrusion!

1st incident lasted 25s during the 9PM news on WGN-TV in Chicago; The 2nd, 2hrs later, lasted ~90s on PBS affiliate WTTW during Dr. Who.

You can watch it here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqge...

Every time Brazilian cops have to arrest Jair Bolsonaro for trying to pull a fast one on them:

Well, they’ll stone ya when you’re trying to be so good
They’ll stone ya just a-like they said they would
They’ll stone ya when you’re tryin’ to go home
Then they’ll stone ya when you’re there all alone
But I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must get stoned

They should release one name a day in the 20 days leading up to Christmas like it’s a criminal advent calendar.

If there's somethin' strange in your neighborhood
Who you gon' call?
Ghostbusters!

If there's somethin' weird, and it don't look good
Who you gon' call?
Ghostbusters!

I ain't afraid of no ghost!
I ain't afraid of no ghost!

Honestly if you're going to take away anything it's this.

These aren't ethical people and they were upheld by people who didn't really care that they weren't ethical. And that's damning for journalism

"Would you say that data observability is an issue?", they inquire with a tone that very clearly implies that this is a leading question.
I am immediately deeply worried. For those who are unaware!
, my specialty is building systems that move large amounts of data through companies, organize them in a way that is at least marginally less of a horrific clusterfuck than what random people without specific training will do when left to their own devices, and sometimes assist with statistics. Data observability is the high-level term that captures the ability of a business to go "Instead of downloading the data, it would appear the computers caught fire this morning. Would you like to fix this or pretend it never happened?"
The reason that I'm concerned is that the executive in front of me should not be using that term. They have no idea what it really means, which is fine because they aren't specialized in my area, but I am wondering why someone who requires crayon-tier technical explanations is inquiring about a niche, unsexy element of a platform they don't understand. This would be like my 96-year-old grandfather asking me about Bitcoin mining-impressive if he had arrived at the question organically, but in practice I'm already dialing the bank to report a massive theft.

...Yes," I reply hesitant, "but I think we can remedy most of that by implementing some basic testing. With some backing, I can accomplish that in a month or two."
"What do you think about Monte Carlo?"
What the fuck is Monte Carlo? I've never heard of that. I mean, I know there's a place called Monte Carlo, and I know of Monte Carlo algorithms, but there's no way this person is talking about either of those. It must be a product.
"I don't know what that is."
"I saw it on LinkedIn last night and I think it will solve our observability issues. Do you think we should get it?"
Oh. Oh no. I don't understand what exactly happened last night on LinkedIn, but I know it is dark and sad and reeks of unfulfilled wants. The executive sat before me has been marketed to. No, worse, they have been Marketed to, with a capital M.

I genuinely think @mrnikli.bsky.social may be one of the best business writers in history, and β€œBrainwash An Executive Today!” is one of the best written and insightful and funny business pieces of all time. A must read. Execs can be really stupid!

Big organizations are buying it because they think they have to, as there is a decent chunk of money that’s made just swindling execs. But that isn’t even really working! Everybody is doing cargo cult shit. Tech companies only know how to spend money and send 3000 Patagonia apes into your inbox.

There is no congruent way to look at generative AI and think β€œthis is the future.” The most well known fact about it is that it messes up all the time, the next being that it loses lots of money.

How can you just leave me standing
Alone in a world that's so cold?
Maybe I'm just too demanding
Maybe I'm just like my father, too bold
Maybe you're just like my mother
She's never satisfied
Why do we scream at each other?
This is what it sounds like
When doves cry

I genuinely do not know where the six million Blackwell GPUs that Jensen Huang claims were shipped in the last four quarters have gone. They’re certainly not turned on and in data centers. Why are companies still buying GPUs?

When even the director of THE FAMILY PLAN 2 says AI sucks, what does that say about those still trying to legitimize it?

The Olivia Nuzzi/Ryan Lizza story ends with Bari Weiss showing up at both their doors with a shaved head and wearing an eyepatch to recruit them for the CBS News Initiative.

something i'll note is that if nuzzi ran catch-and-kill ops for rfk jr and lizza knew this prior to him being appointed as HHS, and instead of telling anyone, he decided to save it for his substack long after rfk jr had made communicable disease into federal policy, that's completely fucked

Colonists slaughtered Native Americans to begin a centuries-long tradition that has led to people being so miserable spending time with their family that they have to get stoned out of their minds.

I know a couple of these people (and aware of many more) and they fully know AI is bullshit and a complete scam. But when rich people are flushing billions down the toilet for this, they might as well take advantage of it and get their bag before it all comes crashing down.

Oddly enough, Nuzzi’s Biden expose was published the same week the Trump people were said to be contacting RFK’s team to talk about an alliance. Makes you think.

It remains hilarious to me that Ryan Lizza is seemingly oblivious to the fact that he, too, was just a creepy older man taking advantage of Olivia Nuzzi

Unless there's a widespread problem of people using pot and operating forklifts, cranes, buses or trains, this seems to be a rather innocuous addiction. I'd argue it's probably one of the healthier things you can put in your body.

If you haven’t figured it out by now especially with Nuzzi/Lizza, our news media is complicit in what we’ve been going through the last decade.
