Surgeons general warning: CDC saves lives. It's up to us to save public health. | Opinion As surgeons general, we took an oath to protect Americans. It includes speaking up when public health is in danger. We see that danger now at the CDC.

3 former Surgeon Generals issue a warning: "The CDC is more than just an agency. It is the cornerstone of public health... The recent turbulence at the CDC threatens to undermine this legacy, and we feel this is not just a bureaucratic or political issue. It’s truly a matter of life and death."

Frankly, I have seen enough.

Secretary Kennedy should be fired immediately.

He's destroying the agency responsible for keeping diseases (like measles and Ebola) under control. This is deadly serious.

Today, we see the federal government making profound austerity cuts to agencies responsible for preparation, prevention, & response. Appointed leaders are unqualified incompetents and crackpots that the President saw on TV.

It feels bad.

20 years ago, I sat in a motel room in Florida watching Hurricane Katrina devastate the city I had called home for the previous 2 years. The climate crisis met first with failures of civil engineering and then the incompetent federal response.

Armed School Officials and Fatal and Nonfatal Gunshot Injuries During Mass School Shootings This cross-sectional study examines whether there is an association between having an armed guard at school and the prevalence of deaths and injuries during school shootings and attempted shootings.

The knee-jerk US response to gun violence is to assign more guys with more guns as defense. The best evidence we have shows that doesn't work. Indeed it appears that schools with armed cops have more, fatal shootings than those without. Likely because disturbed young men seek out suicide by cop.
