People are trying to dissect and figure out what went wrong for 2XKO to fail, but the truth is that it DIDN'T fail. It was more successful than anybody could imagine or want to admit. It just wasn't successful ENOUGH for poor multibillionaire riot games

My enthusiasm for doing my 2XKO dailies has been shot in the head. It really sucks to know that CONGRATS this game you enjoy playing just lost half of its work force only 3 weeks after release. Like, Riot...eat a bag of dicks

The competition is Slack, unfortunately. This is one area where there are open source alternatives that do the voice or the text side of Discord better, but none do both at once.

Most of the problems with the game stem from high-level decision-making. The people who should be laid off are the people writing the layoff emails. No offense to those people (I've met some personally, they're nice guys!) but they made some fundamentally misguided decisions.

The problems with 2XKO have been obvious for years. Riot obliquely acknowledged some problems but didn't address them in any real way. That's 100% on the people at the highest levels of leadership. And the PS5 launch was a disaster - that's not on a mid-level employee!

I think A Realm Reborn was probably a bad thing for the industry in that people still point to it and say "maybe we can pull a Real Reborn." But A Realm Reborn happened because they replaced the lead on the game, and the new lead brutally identified the existing problems and pledged to fix them.

2 things:

1) 80 people have been terminated and that is ~half the team, so 2XKO was made with ~160 staff. That's not very big at all. That's a tiny fucking team for a major release. Let me put this into perspective, 「𝐒𝐍𝐊」 is over ~500 people.

2) Losing half your team is a death knell.

2XKO has been out of early access for 20 days.

Between today's 2XKO news, today's Discord news, recent Yakuza news, I'm rapidly running out of places to turn to replenish spoons when the rest of the world is already on fire.

If you're gonna read any quote from an article on the game, let it be this one, because I think it sums up a lot of the feelings of fans pretty succintly

Here's the thing about the "we already know who the adults are without doing the scan" thing, my assumption here is, they're likely working off the data they're harvesting through your played games and other data they harvest, and the most security conscious users have likely turned that shit off.

despite what this post may say: this is not a walkback. this is a reiteration. we already knew this information. do not fall for unwise propaganda. keep the pressure on, financially or verbally. barrage them.

Reflecting on this, I think everyone should have the experience of getting documented proof that yes, in fact your enemies are conspiring against you.

Discord isn't walking back anything yet, but this shows they are feeling the pressure and you should keep bullying and contacting them until they relent.

Maybe less if the battlepass was popular. For a character with a starting roster of TEN, that is INSANE. Especially when the sticker shock on a single costume is as much as any given small game. Is that Teemo costume really worth more than HADES 2?

So, the purpose of the f2p game is to get people to spend more money over time than they would in a normal full priced game. Let's compare that to something like Street Fighter 6, which retaild at full price. To catch up to SF6, they'd need you to buy 4 costumes, right away, just to reach parity.

Years and years ago I wrote up a design on how to do perfect age verification online, and in the intervening time Chrome has written almost the entire stack required to do it as part of their “managed browser” project they made for school chromebooks. Every age system visible to adults is theater.
