And my really bleak thinking is this is intentional. It's a neo-feudalism thing. If we remove everything of additional value from public schools than only private schools teach the complex nuances of the world and it creates a stark class divide.

And for all of them that is part of the secret sauce of what makes them special. God knows I've gotten a lot of mileage in my career from my basic understanding of pedagogy (due to many teachers in my life).

The "We don't need to know anything else" is just setting yourself up for failure.

What's funny is almost all of the best software engineers I've ever worked with have diverse interests outside of just "code".

Sure some are math dweebs (who learn REAL hard math outside of their day to day) but a lot are design weirdos, or love to read, or love architecture.

I agree with this and also think it's exacerbated by the fact that even when young men find GOOD advice it's a lot harder and more abstract than the right wing advice.

People tell me "focus on being likable and interesting" but that's a lot more complicated to enact than "the problem is woman".

Sounds like a skill issue on that dude's part.

Hell, I frame a lot of advice to men as "if you want to get laid do this" but the real advice is harder to take so many young men take the "easy" road of right wing "one secret trick" grift advice.

Similarly I've told lots of younger men how to fix their dating profiles (being funny is better than being ripped, for example) and they end up having a bad reaction because it requires a different sort of effort they're less interested in putting out.

I have mixed feelings about this because, yes, you're right, but also a lot of young men don't want to take GOOD advice because it's often harder, more abstract, less satisfying.

Stuff like "not everyone will like you, that's ok, just be decent and you'll win out" doesn't appeal
