I watched a Halloween episode of Psych with my kids the other day where in a flashback Shawn’s dad was taking them to get their candy x-rayed and my kids could not understand why. All I could tell them was that the 80s were a strange time.

The people who bore that symbol murdered Jews in their homes. They deliberately sought out black members of the French army and targeted them for killing. That’s just the beginning. The list of their crimes is long and horrifying. It is not a “sick tat.” It is a symbol of hate.

My kids’ schools have a lot of computer-only assignments, but their computer system lets teachers customize their class pages so there is no consistency in how these assignments are looked up, completed, tracked, or graded. Every class is confusingly different and it is hard to tell what is due.

Every few months now I re-read this "Who Goes Nazi?" piece from 1941 and am blown away by how it captures the people we are dealing with 80 years later.

The government is shut down because Trump wants to act like a king and steal from you.

Democrats have no obligation to support a budget that funds the destruction of our democracy - and DOUBLES health premiums to fund a tax cut for billionaires.

But are they actively discouraging more conservative candidates, in red districts? I feel like the policy people in the national party and Ezra Klein are not that far apart on any view. Neither Schumer or Jeffries have endorsed Mamdani. It’s not like they are jumping on liberal candidates.

What I don’t understand is who is deciding who we run? Shouldn’t it be Democratic voters in a primary? What business is it of Ezra Klein’s who Nebraskans pick to run in Nebraska? Let them decide this for themselves.

This is one of my favorite books of all time. A masterpiece.

I feel this is more than some meaningless honor because the right are using Kirk to go after people they don’t like. Having Congress honor him gives them more ammunition. We should not be helping that. It would have passed anyway but I don’t want my rep helping them.

My own rep — Raskin, who is usually good — voted for this. I could not be more angry about it. What was he thinking?

For dinner tonight I tackled the dish I most want to be able to make well and one that is notoriously hard to get right — paella.

I don’t want to live in a world where political assassinations are commonplace and I wish that the people that control our government would do even the slightest real thing to prevent them. Instead I expect they will make things worse and use this as an excuse to target groups they don’t like.

This is being willfully blind. For it to be a forgery you would have to assume that decades before Trump became President somehow thought to fake his signature to frame him. It is not credible to conclude anything other than this is Trump’s signature. The Washington Post is a disgrace.

When I was little for some reason I thought I was a Leo, and was disappointed when I found out I was a Virgo, which did not seem nearly as cool to a young boy as a lion. It turns out I was right!

(For those not from here, you’re not supposed to eat on the Metro. They used to enforce it. Today there was a guy in a metro uniform a couple seats over and he didn’t say a word. I hear the National Guard are always eating on it. It pisses the locals off.)

A couple walked by talking loudly on speakerphone about brunch. At three in the afternoon! It is truly a hellhole.

Went into DC for my son’s soccer game and took the Metro. There was a guy eating chicken wings on the Metro. DC has truly become a lawless place.
