I feel like "journalists" and "the owners of mass media" are two very different questions.

"Reined in". How do you rein in an agency that routinely ignores court orders? It's not with a tepid law that they will also ignore. Repeal their charter, delete ICE and DHS.

Schumer: ball’s in your court

Republicans: stab the ball, tear it apart, set it on fire, rip up the court and sell the turf to Bahrain

Schumer: hey you guys are out of balls

Republicans: we’re gonna kill your families

Schumer: ok we’ll pass funding for new balls but you’ve GOT to read the rules

Dang it, now docking in KSP and conjugal relations in CK3 are linked in my head, and it's going to take a lot of brain bleach to unlink them.

I really don't want to hear from any libertarians, but...

This article has the flavor of a last-minute AI-slopped book report, saying a bunch of things about libertarians without actually talking to one.

Better to round-file the whole thing.

It could happen in 2026! All that is required is that the Prophecy of the Subverted Betting Oracle be fulfilled.

All books taken together form a kind of world. And what we have here is a technology that creates a desolate patch of ground.

If you create enough desolate places, you will find some unlucky customers to live in that desert!

This happened to community, the web, too, and then commerce.

Just a quick update from the Twin Cities. (Please forgive the unsolicited message). THINGS ARE NOT BETTER IN MINNEAPOLIS. The media is mostly moving on, Trump is focused on other stuff, BUT NOTHING HAS CHANGED ON THE GROUND. More than 2,000 DHS thugs continue to roam the streets, abducting people 24/7, assaulting legal observers with impunity, and routinely denying 1st, 4th, and 5th amendment rights. Drones and helicopters are overhead every day. Hundreds and hundreds of terrified families have not left their homes since mid-December ... relying on the community to bring them food and help with rent and other necessities. (Those people are NOT violent drug cartel sex offending murderers, as DHS would tell you. Most are legal residents or citizens.) If anything, things have just become more stressful and intractable (think trench warfare as a suitable metaphor): The resistance is better organized and numerous, but DHS has become more clever and better at disguise... and the county sheriff's office is increasingly supporting them . Do not let anyone tell you that Homans (the new person in charge of the occupation) is making anything better. Do not let anyone tell you that 700 ICE agents leaving the city has made much of a difference; the remaining force (again, ~2,000) is still larger than the entire city's police force (which is legally unable to do anything). Please call your congressional reps ... especially if there is any chance the administration might listen to them.

A desperate plea sent to me by a Minneapolis resident who's been on the front lines since the beginning of the ICE occupation:

One way to not be a lawyer is to point at your client's Atrocity Factory and say "goddamn, I am so tired". "Lawyer" here seems like a frame so awful it practically demands to be broken.

i am trying not to joke about the Epstein stuff because it's so horrible but there's also this ridiculous element where it's like... discovering Dracula is real, he's taken over human society at the highest levels, he's involved in tons of evil and also he's a huge dipshit

A dark blue mug with an American flag reads β€œAMERICA 1776 – 2026”

Fairly sure it’s unintentional, but the end date on this mug being sold by the Smithsonian does make it sound a little like they’re saying America dies in 2026…
