This is my life,
And these times are so hard, and it’s gettin’ even harder,
Tryna feed and breed β€” keep my line from gettin’ slaughtered.

No. It was a billionaire property management company called Greystar.

Alright, so I've been afraid to say this out loud, but I think after today, I can say it: In the first Battle of Los Angeles, the good people of LA County have prevailed. We beat ICE back. 1/

City Attorney Election Puts Seattle's Renewed 'War on Drugs' Under Scrutiny - Bolts Over the past year, Seattle has begun barring some residents from entering certain neighborhoods of their city.Β  A new ordinance has given local judges the authority to ban people from... Read More

NEW: Seattle has a rare Republican in office, its city attorney.

She championed a policy rolled out last year β€” when you’re so much as charged (not convicted) of a drug offense, a judge can ban you from setting foot in select areas, like downtown.

She’s also up for reelection in a few weeks:

The basic fact that dudes like this fail to understand is that driving a car has sooo many externalities. Pedestrian deaths. Air pollution. Noise. Water pollution from tires. Cyclists should be treated as saints and given every privilege.

I suspect there is some disparity among the kinds of churches currently complying with IRS regs. Perhaps the party that believes in the legitimacy of taxes and the rule of law disproportionally benefits?

This is Yasir. He’s 21 yo. He fled Sudan after he was kidnapped & tortured by the RSF.

Thx to his legal team @Door_NYC he walked out of his ICE check-in today (unlike too many others).

The best of birthday presents to have been there to meet him. Amazing what a New Yorker he’s already becoming.

ICE is now changing tactics and arresting people who have been granted asylum hearings.
Β
This is both a violation of US & international law that demands immediate attention from all New York elected officials & underscores the urgent need for legal service providers to be at all of these cases.

"We are devastated and heartbroken at the loss of our parents, Melissa and Mark. They were the bright lights at the center of our lives, and we can't believe they are gone. Their love for us was boundless. We miss them so much.
"We want everyone to know that we are both safe and with loved ones. We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support we have received, and we appreciate your respect for our family's privacy as we grieve.
"Our family would like to thank law enforcement for their swift action that saved others and for the coordination across communities that led to the arrest of the man who murdered our parents. We especially would like to thank the officers who were first on the scene to our parents' home and their heroic attempts to rescue our mom and dad.
"Our parents touched so many lives, and they leave behind an incredible legacy of dedication to their community that will live on in us, their friends, their colleagues and co-workers, and every single person who knew and loved them.
"If you would like to honor the memory of Mark and Melissa, please consider the following:
β€’ Plant a tree.
β€’ Visit a local park and make use of their amenities, especially a bike trail.
β€’ Pet a dog. A golden retriever is ideal, but any will do.
β€’ Tell your loved ones a cheesy dad joke and laugh about it.
β€’ Bake something β€” bread for Mark or a cake for Melissa, and share it with someone.
β€’ Try a new hobby and enjoy learning something.
β€’ Stand up for what you believe in, especially if that thing is justice and peace.
"Hope and resilience are the enemy of fear. Our parents lived their lives with immense dedication to their fellow humans. This tragedy must become a moment for us to come together. Hold your loved ones a little closer. Love your neighbors. Treat each other with kindness and respect. The best way to honor our parents' memory is to do something, whether big or small, to make our community just a little better for someone else."

~45% of US corn production is now used to make ethanol, mostly for mixing into gasoline.

That's ~13% of all US crop land already used for energy production.

Using some of the same land for solar panels would capture 50-100 times more energy per acre.

OTD in 1871, Grant signed the KKK Actβ€”now 42 U.S.C. Β§ 1983β€”still one of our sharpest tools against local fascists. But there’s no equivalent statute for federal officials who violate rights. I'll bet a Dem Senator introducing one now would get some Sunday time to talk about ICE (and Musk).

Mississippi Goddam - Live At Carnegie Hall, New York, 1964 Nina Simone Β· In Concert Β· Song Β· 1964

Can anyone recommend a history of Civil Rights Movement music? I know some and there's some coverage in Taylor Branch's trilogy. But I want to learn more. I was just reading about 'Mississippi Goddam' and didn't know it was first performed live at Carnegie Hall. What a legend Nina Simone was.

Hot take: Focusing AI criticism on bad outputs or forced adoption misses the pointβ€”those are temporary, moving targets. The real and persistent issue is the social and political fallout, and the deep category errors baked into how AI is framed and deployed.
