Same for me as a child in rural Cheshire. The farmer’s wife used to turn up with a couple of billy cans of sweet milky coffee when we had a break. I can still taste it now 40 odd years later.

Is that a remaster? We were big fans at school of Rain Parade and The Long Ryders etc as well as XTC. This was almost a holy relic when we got our grubby teenager hands on it.

I have and these are the CDs I bought that day. Unfortunately the piano concertos CD is hopelessly “bronzed” and won’t play!

Oddly enough, I have just dug it out to stick on later as I haven’t played it this century. I only bought it because at the time all my records were at my parents house back in Cheshire.

This is one of the first three CDs I bought. I bought a CD player with my second month’s pay from my first proper job and picked this up the Virgin Megastore on Oxford Street.

As an aside, I love those covers, especially the typeface used for Janet and John.

I think "listeners" is doing rather a lot of heavy lifting there.

I genuinely love pop music at its best it can be joyous, even sublime. I am completely bemused by the extraordinary popularity of some of these artists.

Much less of his singing than Beginnings, which was a blessed relief.

Herne Bay is ok, but it’s no Broadstairs!

Heaps better than Canterbury, which is the most disappointing place I’ve ever visited!
