I think it sounds lovely, and it's a good idea to keep trying to distract yourself, even if it feels like it isn't working. When my dad was ill I spent a huge amount of time playing Tetris as it occupied my hands as well as my brain, and left no space for other thoughts. It was a bit of a break

I'm so sorry. We've also been recently stung by a vet encounter that was either incompetence or bill-inflation. One morning our cat was vomiting profusely, had spasms in her abdomen, and was completely limp. Within minutes of arriving at the vet I had a bill for £1500 for fluids and tests
