I have wandered hammered through London, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Liverpool. The only place I've genuinely felt unsafe being drunk and alone in? Newtown in Wales

11.12.2025 19:22 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The Times has been like this since 2018: just a load of anti trans bollocks in both its opinion and news pages.
11.12.2025 14:30 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Also an exceedingly good way to get out of a date going badly.....
08.12.2025 17:08 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Ahh crap. Did the other player say your dad rather than your mum?
07.12.2025 20:37 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I'm loathe to defend McDonnell given his IRA statements in the past, but the fact that Rowling is pushing for a roll back of Trans rights that precedes the 70's should be newsworthy
07.12.2025 20:37 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Based on pub games I've been a part of: did one player spill their pint on the green causing the other player to say "that's what your mums sheets looked like when I left". Forcing the ref (barstaff) to tackle the outraged player out the way
07.12.2025 20:34 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Oh 100%. A Portugal based model is preferable both in helping addicts and going after the pushers of drugs like this. I think however the US's unique circumstances in this area make it a harder sell
07.12.2025 19:14 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0For Americans a big part of the drug debate is the rampant issue of Oxy and Fentanyl, especially in blue collar heavy industry communities. It tends to colour alot of the decrim debate as the worst US OD crisis is explicitly from legal drugs.
07.12.2025 19:02 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Aye true. Just trying to rationalise some of the muted responses
07.12.2025 18:50 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I mean..... during the Cold War they did
07.12.2025 18:31 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0You are right, but I think more than a few allies have been cowed into silence by the perceived momentum behind the anti trans movement.
07.12.2025 11:36 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0We're in a lull right now: organisations that can be cowed are doing so, those that show spine SM is backing off from. The loss in the Leonardo case has also taken some wind from their sales. A number of people and orgs are waiting for GLP's case to resolve. Allies may emerge depending on outcomes
06.12.2025 22:21 โ ๐ 10 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0What's more likely is Faulkner attempting to name drop
06.12.2025 21:38 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Harman supported the previous rules ie trans exclusion based on proportionate and limited aims.
06.12.2025 21:36 โ ๐ 10 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0FYI Asda do a good pan for about a tenner
06.12.2025 11:39 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Transphobia does something to peoples brains that no other prejudice seems to.
06.12.2025 11:33 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0On the booze to a kid nonsense... anyone who has worked in a supermarket in this country can tell you that it is rigorously policed by law enforcement.
06.12.2025 11:28 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0So by my reckoning..... Jenrick coronation after a recently disgraced former PM staggers down a plane stairs clearly hungover. Any bets @stephenkb.bsky.social
02.12.2025 22:59 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Sorry I thought you meant leadership attempts my bad. Agree with the initial ranking
02.12.2025 22:58 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0She beat Jenrick by a decent chunk but not much as initially thought ironically kinda similar to the Truss/Sunak contest
02.12.2025 22:54 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Wait third? I thought it was her second?
02.12.2025 22:53 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Hell not even crumble, they roll over and say "but next time"
02.12.2025 22:43 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Also everytime our One Nations have met the test they crumble
02.12.2025 22:39 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Two points.
1. Majority of people don't know shit about economics. Neither do many of our commentators. But the bar for a party leader should be they can explain simply what their position is.
2. In the comments of hilarity, frustration and some sneering not seeing anyone propose alternatives.
What I'm pushing at is that secularism isn't an absence of religion from thinking but rather the movement from the view of religion being the all encompassing way to view the world.
02.12.2025 12:38 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Hell I was tempted to go back to the Hussites just to see how high I could argue
02.12.2025 11:43 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0But it's also where we have Hume making his arguments against the existence of miracles, also Jeffersons bible which cuts out any mention of divine intervention.
People are using religion as a way to explore and explain the world but are now doing so in a critical way as opposed to simple belief
I'd disagree but only because I'd say socialism has a clearer link to the rise in Evangelism (especially in Wales). Marx and Engels primarily responding to the abject squalor that was a unnecessary result of mass industrialisation
02.12.2025 11:21 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0You read Rubicon and Persian Fire, that makes you want to do a Classics degree, you reread them after and end up going "I don't remember this much Ceaser and Spartan apologia last time around."
02.12.2025 11:17 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I think the best criticism of Holland is he spends his podcast constantly criticising other historians for using modern values to judge historical figures/events but does it in spades in his own work.
