As a casual reader, I can’t remember a critic doing this since Siskel and Ebert.

I see so many hiring teams complaining about how the “spray and pray” method (aided by AI tools), has resulted in low-quality applications.

But the AI screening tools also screen out so many good applications because people can’t figure out the “puzzle” of what it wants. 🫠

Used to have a manager who LOVED abstractions and required all files be > 100 lines of code long. Everything he wrote you had to click through 10 files just to see how it worked. Maddening.

TikTok gets to stay as long as it’s willing to remove those videos, I guess.

This is fascinating to me because there is a second parallel convo happening on my timeline right now.

I get a shocking number of steam community AI results for horticulture questions. I’m re-landscaping my yard every time I search on Google its AI answer is actually a game mechanic or puzzle answer for any game that uses plants.

I don’t think my team is about to get hit with vibe coded stuff BUT refactoring is a skill I’d like to refine.

I used to hang out on a poetry forum that also hosted poems for well-known poets.

Someone in this forum actively critiqued deceased poet and Nobel winner Pablo Neruda’s poems.

My favorite comment was “I like this one. But your one about a dog was better.”

100% agree. I’m context switching way more because I try to work on other things while waiting for the tool.

I regularly think about how the programming community was soooo dismissive of crypto bc of its energy demands. To the point of bullying people who worked in crypto.

But AI has the same energy demands, and none of that same energy is there.

Really feels like everyone’s values kinda changed.

I used to do a good job of tracking/recording my work for self-reviews. I’ve fallen out of the habit, and I’m really seeing the consequences today.
