Flabbergasted is right. This should have been an urgent, next-day-fixed kind of thing. Iโ€™m sure itโ€™s fiddly and a pain, but this isnโ€™t a minor issue, and people WILL get hurt, or worse.

Yep. Itโ€™s this weird, twisted idea that their unimpeded drive is more important than whether someone else continues breathing. Are other people REAL to you?

When I get annoyed while driving, I repeat to myself โ€œThere is nowhere I need to go that is more important than someone elseโ€™s life.โ€

Normal human reaction to someone nearly being struck by a vehicle: Thatโ€™s scary and terrible! I hope theyโ€™re okay. How could that happen?

Carbrain reaction: I hope that person who was nearly killed has insurance in case they *checks notes* scratch my car.

Sorry, WHAT?

I think thatโ€™s fair โ€” it is bizarre how poorly set up it is. But I am indignant that theyโ€™d assume the worst of the cyclist instead of approaching with curiosity as to how something could go so obviously wrong. I hate to ride around people with that perspective about someone being nearly killed.

(Not to mention this light design is indeed murderous.)

Yeah, the comments on that one are W I L D.

โ€œTHIS is why they should be licensed and insured!โ€

Really? Because they follow the rules of the road as designed? This is not the scofflaw example you think it is, Carbrain.

As always, it is terrifying to realize we share the road with these folks.

Really hoping to not get hit by a car this Halloween...

If you are considering driving on Halloween, DON'T. Stay home.

If you are going out on Halloween, BRING A FLASHLIGHT!

a woman in a white sweater says oh please in orange letters Alt: An older white woman with curly white hair (Betty White as Rose in The Golden Girls) sits back in her chair and folds her arms, tossing her head and rolling her eyes. Text: โ€œOh pleaseโ€

At least the women are aglow, smiling, and graceful.

This is the best Halloween safety messaging Iโ€™ve seen in years!:

Yeah, thatโ€™s definitely worth mentioning!

I keep activities restricted to followers, and use the privacy controls around my home and other sensitive locations. Itโ€™s not perfect, but I do like that the data can take into account trips like these, and not just weekend warrior road bike trips.

Yes! I filled out the request form for one some time ago (a month?) but havenโ€™t heard anything back. Might be because Iโ€™m Kingโ€™s staff, not Dal (some facilities/services are shared but not all), or perhaps because I was asking about a large cargo bike and thatโ€™s hard to accommodate.

I usually get the sound, but today I didnโ€™t. In our classroom today there was one person who got the sound two times, a few minutes after the rest of the class. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

Noticed this morning that Strava has added โ€œwith kidโ€ to the tags! (I canโ€™t find it right now but I had grumbled on here when they added โ€œwith petโ€ but no โ€œwith kid.โ€ Grumble withdrawn!)

Great! If you want closer, there are racks (staples, I think?) outside the Killam Library and the Student Union Building, which are probably plenty secure with a good lock, but more public.

Bonus of parking at Kingโ€™s is youโ€™re just steps away from @kingsbookstore.bsky.social ๐Ÿ˜‡

This isnโ€™t Dal campus, but right next door: The nook outside the NAB at Kingโ€™s has lots of bike parking (weird racks, tho) and IME seems to be very secure. Itโ€™s out of view if driving by, but lots of eyes on it from passersby.

Last turn before our driveway last night: I took the lane, signaled a left, and just as I was about the begin my turn a black SUV overtook me on the left.

In our car on Sat we were waiting to turn left at Bayers & Romans and someone passed us ON THE RIGHT to make a left turn IN FRONT OF US.

Wtf!
