Flabbergasted is right. This should have been an urgent, next-day-fixed kind of thing. I’m sure it’s fiddly and a pain, but this isn’t a minor issue, and people WILL get hurt, or worse.

Yep. It’s this weird, twisted idea that their unimpeded drive is more important than whether someone else continues breathing. Are other people REAL to you?

When I get annoyed while driving, I repeat to myself “There is nowhere I need to go that is more important than someone else’s life.”

Normal human reaction to someone nearly being struck by a vehicle: That’s scary and terrible! I hope they’re okay. How could that happen?

Carbrain reaction: I hope that person who was nearly killed has insurance in case they *checks notes* scratch my car.

I think that’s fair — it is bizarre how poorly set up it is. But I am indignant that they’d assume the worst of the cyclist instead of approaching with curiosity as to how something could go so obviously wrong. I hate to ride around people with that perspective about someone being nearly killed.

(Not to mention this light design is indeed murderous.)

I keep activities restricted to followers, and use the privacy controls around my home and other sensitive locations. It’s not perfect, but I do like that the data can take into account trips like these, and not just weekend warrior road bike trips.

Yes! I filled out the request form for one some time ago (a month?) but haven’t heard anything back. Might be because I’m King’s staff, not Dal (some facilities/services are shared but not all), or perhaps because I was asking about a large cargo bike and that’s hard to accommodate.

I usually get the sound, but today I didn’t. In our classroom today there was one person who got the sound two times, a few minutes after the rest of the class. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Noticed this morning that Strava has added “with kid” to the tags! (I can’t find it right now but I had grumbled on here when they added “with pet” but no “with kid.” Grumble withdrawn!)

Great! If you want closer, there are racks (staples, I think?) outside the Killam Library and the Student Union Building, which are probably plenty secure with a good lock, but more public.

This isn’t Dal campus, but right next door: The nook outside the NAB at King’s has lots of bike parking (weird racks, tho) and IME seems to be very secure. It’s out of view if driving by, but lots of eyes on it from passersby.

A coworker of mine lives in the area and went through just before this crash. She saw some of the emergency responders on their way. Incredibly tragic and sobering. No dry eyes here.

It is galling to me that we all have to engage in this trust exercise and a (growing?) number of folks are not even a little bit trustworthy!

Last turn before our driveway last night: I took the lane, signaled a left, and just as I was about the begin my turn a black SUV overtook me on the left.

In our car on Sat we were waiting to turn left at Bayers & Romans and someone passed us ON THE RIGHT to make a left turn IN FRONT OF US.

Wtf!
