Everything is terrible but I just showed the ten year old Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet (which is utterly ridiculous but also still kind of great) and she goes “oh that super cute boy from the Titanic is in this, what’s his name, Ballerina Cappuccino?”

My very lesbian advice is to check out the Chani app and do the breakthrough course. It’s free and lovely.

Ooooph, grief is so tough in all its forms.

I think of those big feeling as an organic experience that we need to metabolize. And it does not feel good. 😬

Wishing you a safe journey through the storm.

I stumbled on an old photo I took in my local park of a fairy crash site. It's not there any more - the log's rotted - but I think about that fairy often.

Today is the 47th anniversary of this clearly unimprovable photo, from a story so absurd that it shouldn’t be true, but is: the day a team of workers from British Waterways pulled the plug out of the Chesterfield Canal, and all the water emptied out

Thank you to everyone who called out Democrats for throwing transgender folks under the bus. They should be fighting for all of our rights, and this is a step in the right direction. Keep yelling, calling, and protesting. They need to hear that we will fire them if they don’t fight for all of us.

Young Kildeer on some gravel stretching it's neck high to see the surrounding area and the photographer as well. It shows how thin the bird's neck is.

Well, we are under flood watch all weekend and the skies have just started opening up. Hope it doesn't get too bad.

Here's a few shots of a cute young adult juvie Kildeer. The last two pics show it stretching it's neck to look at me and it's interesting how thin the neck is.

Washing your hands when you get to your destination should be standard practice. Not just coming *home* from outside but EVERYWHERE. We don't realize how much we come into contact with when we're outside. Your first move when you're in a place to wash your hands? Wash your hands.

At Home Depot garden center where some amazing activists are holding up signs that say “ICE WAS HERE TODAY” and even still there are day workers all over the parking lot. LA isn’t going to abandon our neighbors and friends and family. Fascists can’t understand that but it is the case nonetheless.

the thing about trans rights is that we fight the civil rights issues of our time. nazi chuds have made this the issue of our time.

it's not more *important* than other civil rights issues, but it is the battleground of the moment, and we have to meet the moment to support everyone's rights.

There is no nice, gentle way to say, “okay so a nation is, in effect, a currency, a military, and resource allocation. If you break all of those, you do not…have a country.”

Today in what’s good: yard berries!

Our wild black raspberries were fantastic this year, yielding 3 crumbles, some ice cream, and a round of jam.

Just went to a friends house and ate yard blueberries fresh from the bush. 🫐

Life goals: plant more yard berries.

I am going to tear my hair out over this. There is no nuance. This is how they start. With trans people (sex/gender), with black people (race), and with Muslims (religion). Whenever fascists get pushback from the mainstream, they scurry back to square one.

It would be more honest if more people would say "I am doing OK amidst the horrors being suffered by others." It's actually not true that everything is terrible for everyone right now. We're living under unequally distributed fascism.

Ecological Gardening - Native Plant Trust

Today in what’s good: ecological gardening.

I had no idea that so much green space is actually ecologically barren!

Monocultures & plants not from an area don’t support much wildlife.

Otoh, using regionally native plants supports wildlife & can be less resource intensive.

Did you know? Less bad + more good = better.

Yes - we do need to focus on reducing harm and violence.

AND we need to explicitly define what’s good, what it thrives on, and how to get more of it. Both.

It’s not Pollyanna to tell good stories. It’s necessary.

So! Here’s a 🧵of what’s good.

It's so crazy we live in a world where female athletes are striking for better wages and dodging sex toys being thrown at them, while trans athletes are being accused of evil scheming so they can play women's sports, which pays well and is highly dignified. It's almost like someone's full of shit
