14.02.2026 23:22 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0NYC and Chicago are bad examples because they’re so large they dominate the state. The reverse question is “Is the state better off without them?” It’s common in other counties where large metropolitan areas are administratively equivalent to the highest level of sub-national division.

No I don't think there's anything particular happening in 1991 that made Nashville unique, it's the start of a nation wide trend of reurbanization. The only thing that came to mind was maybe the end of Gulf War I Kurdish settlement, but that doesn't explain the sustained growth

13.02.2026 21:57 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 02. More tellingly, the percentage growth tells a clearer picture: our current sustained population growth started right at 1991, well before the Titans migration, contrary to what a certain would-be-redistricted CM (if deconsolidation happened) had claimed
13.02.2026 19:04 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 01. Total population growth was modest after the consolidation until 1990s at the dawn of reurbanization
13.02.2026 19:04 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I'm only HALF joking, mostly so that Joy Styles can just run for her local HOA president instead. But there just isn't sufficient evidence that the consolidation catalyzed an economic boom. GDP data on the county doesn't go back that far, but population growth shows a different story:
