Anyhow, despite having a NACS adapter I don't really see the need to use Tesla's chargers except in situations where they're the only game in town. Not only are they usually slower with 800v cars, they're the most expensive by far at about ~$0.50/kw.

The Ft Pierce rest stop broke my record for fastest DC charging: 234kw. This was preceded by an earlier stop in Pompano, but the chargers there (same network: FPL) provided a measley 40kw by comparison. I've seen a few 350kw stations around, but haven't tried them yet.

We did our first EV "road trip" this weekend: ~240 miles each way. Two random observations: 1: supercharger congestion is nuts! Stopped to charge 3x, and all 3 stops had packed superchargers. By contrast, CCS chargers always had room. 2: every CCS network has their own app. Annoying! I'm up to 7.

Unreasonably bummed to learn that the zoo in Miami decommissioned and scrapped its monorail in 2022. I had fond memories of riding it as a kid! 1990s me was convinced monorails were the transit option of the future.

I'm not usually hop-crazy either! Maybe just a little hop-curious. This was unexpectedly smooth. I'll be keeping an eye out for more on my next beer run.

Hopped... sparkling water? This was a new experience, but a delightful one.

You're right - I think a lot of folks have sticker shock on new vehicles (understandably) but don't quite realize how affordable a gently used EV can be. I certainly didn't expect it until I started actively looking. Great looking car, btw.

Yes, definitely a convert now. I snagged an Ioniq 6 in the rare-but-excellent digital green color. It's been a thrill so far!

+1 to the aux port hookup though - or even better, the cassette to 3.5mm adapters! My first car had that and I loved it.

We got a return-to-office mandate back in August and I was suffering pretty hard with stick shift + commute traffic and filling up twice a month. EV felt worth it for that experience alone. Still getting comfy with charging routine but overall no complaints, having a real "modern" car is wild lol

Two weeks ago I made the plunge on a gently used EV. Now I'm that guy who won't shut up about how awesome EVs are (sorry.) Especially coming from a series of manual transmission cars, it truly feels like driving a spaceship.

End of an era. I really think this is for the best, despite having many wonderful memories of visiting as a kid 20+ years ago.

Still thinking about this cozy beer garden in southwestern Maine from last weekend. Pizza, beer, 70 degrees, 45% humidity. Just incredible.

Hi. I don't have anything of substance to add to the current discourse, so here's a loon on a lake.

I've used twitter via the web app on firefox mobile since they shut down 3rd party apps prior to elonification. Since then, it is shocking how much power it drains even just scrolling the timeline for several minutes. At some point I need to plug in dev tools and investigate.

My favorite "why does <small town> have a swank airport?" example remains Portsmouth, NH, which has no business being as nice as it is for all *checks notes* 3-6 flights per week. Unlike Monroe, I don't really understand why it exists in the first place.

4.6 Billion Years On, the Sun Is Having a Moment In the past two years, without much notice, solar power has begun to truly transform the worldโ€™s energy system.

Among all the big bad things happening on our planet, there's one Big Good Thing, the sudden, startling rise of solar energy.
It changes the power dynamic, in every sense of the word 'power.'

From one of the local protests in Casselberry this morning. Overheard organizers estimate about 2000 in attendance, by far their largest turnout yet.

There are 2 previous historical cases of countries destroying their science and universities, crippling them for decades: Lysenkoism in the USSR and Nazi Germany. The Trump administration will be the 3rd.
It's not just budgets but research, institutions, expertise, and training the next generation.
