In animation I've seen plenty of people assume their dept. is the hardest/most vital. As someone who's worked from vis dev to final stringout I can tell you: it's all vital. It's all skilled work. An engine is an important car part, but it still won't run without wheels. Be a team, not a tier list.

Yeah I believe like some others have said that this is a double exposed backlighting effect, maybe they had a gel with that shimmer pattern they were moving in front of the matted backlight.
