T.U.M.E. — Stone Cold Freak (1975). Bought this album a while ago, but didn't give it a proper listen until now. A great mix of funk and soul on this one album group, featuring Howard Huntsberry (of Klique fame) on drums and vocals, and Ron Kersey (Salsoul Orchestra/The Trammps) on keyboards. #vinyl

Ojiji — Forgotten Dream (1979). Toronto jazz-funk and reggae album by Rupert Harvey, founder and lead vocalist of the band Messenjah. He and brother Carl Harvey emigrated to Canada from Jamaica and were soon signed by Columbia Records in the mid-'70s to a recording contract for Crack Of Dawn. #vinyl

Sandy Steele — Mind Your Own Business (1980). Canadian leftfield disco cover of the original by British post-punk and new wave band Delta 5. Not much is known about this artist, which may be a pseudonym used by prolific Montreal producer Jerry Cucuzzella for one of his studio disco projects. #vinyl

Black Ivory — Big Apple Rock (1979). New to the collection. Boogie legend Leroy Burgess has been a mainstay with the group, formed when five young Harlem, N.Y., teens auditioned for Patrick Adams, a musician in the late '60s who later became a soul, disco, and boogie producer and arranger. #vinyl

Although it is one game, the Jays don't look like underdogs. Which brings me to the actual L.A. Boppers. They started out as Side Effect's backing band before the group's leader Augie Johnson managed to get a record deal for band members. #vinyl

L.A. Boppers — Wrap You Up (1982). So the Los Angeles Dodgers weren't exactly bopping at the plate or on the mound during the first game of the World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays. As the defending champions and entering the series as favourites, I would say they were likely humbled. #vinyl

Clive Bradley — Party On The Block (1974). Heavy big band funk from the Trinidad & Tobago artist who briefly moved to Canada in the 1960s. A Canadian pressing of this record was made back in the day, likely for folks from the Caribbean who were making their way north for a better life. #vinyl

Pure Energy — When You're Dancin' (1980). Finally found the group's sole album in the field this weekend. Two of the members, Lisa Stevens and Curtis Hudson, wrote Madonna's hit Holiday. #vinyl

Larnelle Harris — Give Me More Love (In My Heart) (1981). Sharing this uplifting gospel disco on a lazy Sunday morning. Bought the album a few years ago, which has been sitting in a crate ever since. #vinyl

Under the radar Italian-Canadian pop-rock album from the early 1980s. Recorded in Toronto (Scarborough), the lead track has a nice groove. #vinyl

Amii Stewart — You Are In My System (1988). While the album Time For Fantasy is a mixed bag of pop, soul, and ballads, the cover of The System's hit is probably one of the better tracks, even if it doesn't stray too much from the original.

Leon Haywood — You Bring Out The Freak In Me (1979). Four years after his hit, I Want'a Do Something Freaky To You, Leon Haywood released another freaky song. A moody yet soulful cut. #vinyl
