I agree with this, our Canadian dollar and smaller grants cannot compete with these huge APC prices, even when our institution negotiates 25% off discounts. I've been getting 1-2 requests PER day since September.

Catherine O'Hara, the actor and comedian best known for "Home Alone," "Beetlejuice" and "Schitt's Creek," has died at the age of 71.

She died at her home in Los Angeles "following a brief illness," her agency said in a statement.

So sad to hear about Catherine O’Hara’s death today. She was an amazing actor and so, so funny. I think we can all agree that Moira brightened up the darkest of days. An amazing Canadian too.

I don’t want to hear anything from an elected official unless it’s a plan to defund the DHS and impeach Noem, Bovino, etc. No texts. No emails. No talk about the economy. Step up or step off.

Reminder: All it would take to end the murder of American citizens by an untrained government goon squad is 16 Republicans in Congress voting with Dems to defund ICE (or 23 to impeach and remove Trump β€” 3 in House & 20 in Senate). That’s it. 23 Americans can vote for the public and end all of this.

Using phones also paradoxically increases boredom which may interfere with classroom motivation.

Just reviewed a revision - the authors used gen AI and made up a new intro and references (roughly 20). First noticed that the text strayed from study’s purpose, then I noticed that all of the new refs were from 2024 or 2025 (implausible), then I started to look up refs to find they don’t exist.

An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

The Passing of Dr. Paul Ekman Dr. Paul Ekman, pioneer of emotion science and creator of FACS, has passed away at 91. Read his memorial and share reflections on his life and legacy.

When I was just starting out in graduate school, I was obsessed with Paul Ekman's work and read numerous papers and book chapters from him in the stacks of UofT. He inspired me to study emotion. www.paulekman.com/blog/the-pas...

For democracy to be truly representative we need to include many more voices. But young voters (18-25yo) face unique barriers and are often overlooked.

We describe these barriers, and propose a psychologically-informed approach to support and increase voter turnout among youth.
