I have something about measurement but it's about measurement of emotion dysregulation/use of DERS. But similarly there are definitely issues with measurement and possible shortcomings about measuring the constructs we think we are measuring.

As I wrote another manuscript review about how the authors didn't actually measure what they purported to measure, and toggled the rating from major revision to reject, I couldn’t help but wonder: have I become the disgruntled reviewer 2?

I do that, sometimes I’ll eat some, other times it all goes away.

research papers now too often (a) collect highly complex data, (b) engage in heavy-handed pre-processing to measure constructs, and (c) pile on multiple layers of statistical estimation.

as a rule of thumb, I think a paper is much clearer when at most one of these is likely to raise eyebrows imho.
