But good showing for #Ohio in the June jobs report, also out this week from BLS. Among large US metros, Columbus, Cincy, and Cleveland all ranked in the top 10 for job growth (%), YoY.

Regional data has been trending downward for several months. Among large US metros, only two, Charlotte and Orlando, are 2.0%+ YoY job growth, according to BLS data out this week. Fewer than one-half are 1.0%+. #jobsreport

📈 Manufacturing employment was up in May, year-over-year, in more than one-third of U.S. metros, including 14 metros gaining 1,000 or more jobs and 33 metros gaining 500 or more, according to BLS.

The U.S. economy is made up of 100s of local economies, and if you're focusing only on the national level--to say nothing of the quality of color commentary these days--you're missing out on the rich diversity of local economies that tell a much more interesting story.

The politicization of the monthly jobs report never ceases to amaze me. If you're following the coverage today, you've probably read that manufacturing is dead, the only source of job growth is either health care or govt, or another of the million takes out there derived from a policy viewpoint.
