But the cost of 35 hours care via an agency might be something in the region of Β£875 per week and around Β£455 of that would go to the care workers

That is really shocking - I had no idea so much of the funding for foster care was wasted.
I think there is also a lot of waste in the social care system e.g. a family member might qualify for Β£83.50 in carer's allowance for 35 hours care per week.

Mind the Gap Currently my father finds himself in a β€œno-man’s land” where his care needs are beyond what the local authority can (or will) accommodate but deemed not severe enough to be eligible for CHC funding…

New blog post. What happens when there is a gap between the social care provided by a local authority and eligibility for CHC funding?

@juliadoubleday.bsky.social I wonder if you can help me. I'm looking for any studies about the risk of reinfection for someone with Long Covid. So far can only find two studies www.longcovidkids.org/post/a-world... and

www.science.org/doi/full/10....

Do you know of any others?

Thanks ever so much! Would you agree that someone who suffered a massive decline in health after contracting Covid should take additional steps to avoid reinfection?

The reason I ask is because my elderly father suffered a huge decline in health after contracting Covid and I'm currently fighting to get funding for him to be cared for at home rather than a care home.
I'm desperate to keep Dad at home because of the risk of reinfection in a residential facility.

Thank you so much! The reason I’m looking for this information is for my elderly father who caught Covid in hospital and still suffers badly with fatigue.
I’m looking for evidence to support him staying out of residential care to avoid reinfection

@joereddington.com Hello, hope you are well. I think I remember you saying you had experience of founding charities/non-profit or similar groups. If you have time, might you have any advice for someone considering setting up a group to campaign for CHC reform?

@fleurperry.bsky.social I'm a huge fan of the work you have done to challenge both ICBs and local councils on forcing disabled people to move to residential facilities.
Might you be willing to share more details of how you made these challenges to someone who is facing a similar challenges?
