The only options they have are to escalate, so it has always been true that if they were elected they would cause violence. Thats why it’s so confusing that electeds keep trying to lead by sushing protestors and preaching legalisms instead of embedding resistance in the American tradition.

masked federal agents used multiple canisters of tear gas + other chemical munitions on a crowd of residents in chicago's southeast side around 12:40 p.m.

neighbors had gathered on a residential intersection following a morning during which dozens of border patrol agents terrorized the community.

But when you have too few slots you are forced to use arbitrary criteria to form a well defined decision problem. So the solution is to fund higher education so that professor/scholar/researcher are widely seen as normal paths of social mobility like doctor or lawyer

My parents values were anti-academic so it never occurred to me to value the performative aspects of academic records. For instance, I did and do resent recommendation letters which are just obviously shitty metrics of talent that inevitably reinforce existing biases.

I think this is mostly because of how few slots there are, because we always concede to conservatives pretend budget worries. There are already more phds than positions, so departments end up stacking wins on people who have been primed for academics since grade school.

A confrontation between community members and militarized federal agents appears to be unfolding on Chicago's southeast side, near the intersection of E. 105th St and S. Ave. N.

Details still emerging. From what I've seen federal agents have deployed at least one can of some kind of gas.

Re Russ vought, there’s no way to be a genius in this context because the law doesn’t contain secret truths. It’s a tool used to codify intent, but the intent is the only truth in the words.
What’s normal is to compute the result of general law in context. Vought is extending the codomain

Interaction between Derek Guy and Matt Stoller on X, the Everything App. Stoller: "Your weird insecurities aside, you consistently lie that native born Americans can't and never have made clothes, and push offshoring in sleazy ways. Then when confronted you have to talk about your left wing views. You're slime." Guy replies: "not true. i've been writing about and promoting US-made clothes for about fifteen years. an early article that comes to mind is my love for 3sixteen jeans, which are made in los angeles. that was published in 2011, the year the second iraq war ended, a war you promoted."

A little frustrating that bsky moderation prevents us from seeing violence like this

This is the seed of Christian nationalism. Parenting as we organize it is a catholic invention. Child rearing takes a village and kids are not possessions but shared responsibilities.

As a former teacher who has faced this situation, how could the constitution compel me to speak? This doesn’t even make sense right? Like maybe you could pass a law, but the constitution itself can’t mandate anything like this

There’s still underpants gnome logic around this projective “they want violent protests” claim. Peaceful is better but this is America. We revolt over taxes. I don’t really understand liberal brains I guess

Billionaire tax cuts are a policy choice.

Cutting healthcare for millions is a policy choice.

Cutting food assistance for children is a policy choice.

Taking from the poor and giving to the rich is a policy choice.

Make no mistake: Trump and the GOP just chose to do this.

The concentration of wealth in the hands of a few isn't just bad for our economy. It's corrosive to our democracy.

When the wealthy and well-connected control our political system, regular people don't have a voice.

The result? The demagoguery and corruption we're seeing now.

Again, every time this happens, we literally have no idea if the masked, plainclothes people are actual government agents, or private citizens acting in party-affiliated paramilitaries. The whole point of IDs & uniforms & no masks is that we know these things.

But too many of the slaves died in captivity. And so Columbus, desperate to pay back dividends to those who had in-vested, had to make good his promise to fill the ships with gold. In the province of Cicao on Haiti, where he and his men imagined huge gold fields to exist, they ordered all persons fourteen years or older to collect a certain quantity of gold every three months. When they brought it, they were given copper tokens to hang around their necks. Indians found without a copper token had their hands cut off and bled to death.
The Indians had been given an impossible task. The only gold around was bits of dust garnered from the streams. So they fled, were hunted down with dogs, and were killed.

After each six or eight months' work in the mines, which was the time required of each crew to dig enough gold for melting, up to a third of the men died.
While the men were sent many miles away to the mines, the wives remained to work the soil, forced into the excruciating job of digging and making thousands of hills for cassava plants.
Thus husbands and wives were together only once every eight or ten months and when they met they were so exhausted and depressed on both sides... they ceased to pro-create. As for the newly born, they died early because their mothers, overworked and fam-ished, had no milk to nurse them, and for this reason, while I was in Cuba, 7000 children died in three months. Some mothers even drowned their babies from sheer desper-ation.... In this way, husbands died in the mines, wives died at work, and children died from lack of milk ... and in a short time this land which was so great, so powerful and fer-tile... was depopulated... My eyes have seen these acts so foreign to human nature, and now I tremble as I write....

Please remember that the disgust people have over Christopher Columbus is not based on some modern, 21st century “woke” ideology, but rather on contemporaneous accounts of atrocities that make many modern genocides appear quaint in comparison.

Below, are the accounts of Bartlomé de las Casas.

Conservative buffoonery means there aren’t enough training slots or full employment slots for researchers. Aligning with theocrats means children are raised to not expect them. Preventing immigrants keeps children in their parents place.
