It's so funny--but also annoying--when people make sweeping generalizations about the academic job market by talking about the Ivies, when so many of the actual jobs are at public schools who have hiring rubrics overseen by and dependent upon conservative state legislatures.

Imagine doing a whole PhD and still thinking Great Man history is real and you're living it. Structural forces can't touch you! You are not acted upon by the world like lesser "DEI" scholars--you are the hero of the story!

And then you run into actual history. That's gotta hurt.

Texas Universities Use AI to Rewrite How Courses Mention Race and Gender Experts say the use of AI could continue to shift control over education away from faculty and toward administrators.

It's a structural problem caused by standardized testing, large classes, and a refusal to pay educators. I can't speak for secondary education, but I can say that at a college level, it's amazing how enthusiastic even your colleagues can be about gaslighting you that many of these are just fine.
