Food Assistance in Multnomah County We can help make it easier to get the food you need. SNAP/Food Stamps. Meal programs. Low-cost farmers markets. Food pantries.

A federal judge said the USDA must use SNAP contingency funds to pay out benefits during the shutdown; however, it’s unclear how soon people will receive them or how much they’ll receive. If you need help with groceries, the County has a list of food pantries, programs and other resources.

I mentioned this stat from Alisa Wood of KKR in a talk I did a few weeks ago, but did you know: There are more private equity firms in the United States than there are McDonald's? (~19,000 vs. 14,000) In 1980, there were 24 PE firms *total* in the U.S. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

SNAP Meals: Where To Eat, No Questions Asked, During the Suspension of SNAP - Bridgetown Bites A list of SNAP Meals available at a number of restaurants, cafes, and food trucks in the Portland Metro area while SNAP is unfunded.

I've been compiling this list since yesterday afternoon, and am heartened and moved by the generosity of Portland's food world - restaurants, food carts, cafes, farmers markets. 33 businesses so far are providing free food/meals to SNAP recipients. #snapmeals #portland #bridgetownbites

I’m proud to see so many in our Portland community stepping up to make sure all have access to healthy and joyful meals while the federal government is failing us. Thanks for posting this list @bridgetownbites.bsky.social!

Uncle Sam billboard on I-5 goes from right-wing zingers to a statement of Native rights The 70-year saga of the Uncle Sam billboard on I-5 south of Chehalis and its provocative, right-wing messaging took an abrupt turn this summer when the billboard and the 3.5 acres on which it sits was...

As someone who grew up around a brand of evangelical toxic paternalism I must say, controlling men feel threatened when they see people living free. It asks them to challenge their stereotypes about masculinity in a way that is very uncomfortableβ€”they learn how weak their version of a man really is.

Stay safe out there y'all.

If you're biking nekkid, the high for today is only about 53Β° F, so make sure you have a plan to warm back up.

If you're *not* nekkid, it's a good idea to have the jail support number written discreetly somewhere on your body where it won't be easily rubbed off.

What Happens When Socialists Are in Charge? Portland Offers a Glimpse.

Not only does this story get a number of basic facts wrong, it doesn’t take time to actually explore why Portlanders elected these folks. Coming in with a pre-baked PDX story to fit a NYT narrative about NYC is harmful, especially at this moment.

Letter from Dan Ryan

Dear Portlanders,

Let’s be honest. Like many of you, I’ve been reflecting on President Trump’s decision to send the military to Portland. At the same time, I have been taking an objective inventory of the current state of our city.

This I know is true: We don’t want to live in a country where the President sends in troops against the wishes our federal delegates in Congress, Governor Tina Kotek, Mayor Keith Wilson and local elected officialsβ€”of which I am one.

Let me be clear. Deploying troops to displace local law enforcement is an extreme federal overreach that threatens our local autonomy. The federal administration was looking for a fight to justify its claims about our city being unmanaged. This path leads to violence, stronger federal intervention, and ultimately justification of the federal overreach. So here we are.

This is not new to us. We were in similar scenarios in 2016 and 2020, and how we handled ourselves at those times has made a permanent imprint on Portland’s reputation. We can act with reason and purpose without tearing this city up.

We must also admit that all is not perfect in Portland. Our economy is struggling with historically high vacancy rates and rising unemployment. We have a humanitarian crisis on the streets that has become enabled and normalized. We need to address intolerable and illegal actions in our community, like open drug use, vandalism, violence, and theft. Portlanders rightfully expect us to get our house in order.

With love for my hometown,

Dan

Call the hotline. As always, ensure you have the PIRC hotline number saved and be prepared to call us as soon as possible if your loved one is detained, ICE has stopped you or is at your door, or you witness an ICE detention. Please call the hotline, rather than messaging us on social media, or emailing us, as the hotline is where we answer most quickly. Enroll in ECO. If you are not already enrolled in the Equity Corps or Oregon program to receive free legal services, call 1-888-274-7292 (Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm). Complete a family emergency plan in case of detention (visit PIRC’s website). Take care to follow all traffic laws. Unfortunately, ICE sometimes uses minor violations to pull people over.

What to do if you spot ICE in your community Amid President Trump’s immigration crackdown, local community networks are the first line of defense. Here’s what Oregon advocates say you should do if you see agents detaining someone.

Immigration advocates say if you see ICE targeting someone, knowing what to do in the moment is critical to protecting immigrants. It’s hard to know what to look for, but this guide can help you better understand how to be an effective bystander in Oregon, and your legal right to do so.
