Gosh it depends on so many things. My instinct is to ask for a specific time that works better for my schedule then, keep it brief. BCP something first then a quick personal phrase while reminding parishioner of my schedule. If the congregant devolves into crisis, welp, the day has changed.

Respectfully I don't think the dam is breaking. I don't think tomorrow or in the coming days we are going to see anything MORE unsettling than what has already been revealed. It's okay to wish the worst on your enemies. It's okay to cheer when people who strip your humanity away get a taste of their own medicine. Is it okay to BRING ON their demise? No. But it's human to be angry and to use your imagination to cope. If you don't understand, you're privileged.

I understand this impulse. If anything I understand it too well. (Seriously, some of the violent fantasies my imagination reaches for as I watch the news coming in… 😬)

But here’s the thing. Losing our compassion and empathy… is part of losing our humanity. And that starts in the imagination.
