Honestly, Iβd have been fine with it as something down the line, wasnβt even expecting such a quick implementation! Thanks for all the hard work you and the rest of the team have put into it!

Musings about baseball, usually about the Braves, but also about other guys I find interesting.

19.02.2026 21:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0One small note I forgot to add to my comment at the end: For PitchingBot Visualizer Counts, having an option to select all counts would help. Obviously it can be done by manually selecting them all, but having an option to auto-select all would make it just a bit quicker.
19.02.2026 20:45 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Also worth noting re: Heim is that the deal works well for him if he was reduced to minors offers, as he at least gets a guaranteed $1.5 million regardless even if he continues to regress.
12.02.2026 21:10 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A bit surprised they were able to get him, but makes sense. He works as a short-term backup, and if he were reduced to minors offers, at least he gets guaranteed money for the season.
10.02.2026 15:58 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Doesnβt quite fit the βavailabilityβ criteria, but if it includes guys who were DFAβd this offseason, worth adding in Eric Wagaman for consideration. Underlying measures actually werenβt that bad on the whole, and while he was clearly stretched, the one thing he did well last year was whack lefties.
29.01.2026 14:37 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Changeupβs even better than you might initially think. Not only is it excellent at catching hitters out front (well above average in attack direction), itβs also above average in the distance hitters miss making contact by when they do swing, which of course pairs well with his whiff rate.
28.01.2026 18:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Also better pitch sequencing likely improves his K%, given how strong he is at getting whiffs. Plus, Rockies generally seem to be pretty bad as an org at converting whiffs into strikeouts, though Chivilli is easily an outlier even for them.
28.01.2026 17:21 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Huge upside play for the Yankees. Just getting him out of the Rockies org should help, but heβs got an ENORMOUS Whiff%/K% mismatch that should improve with good sequencing, in addition to excellent measures on his changeup.
Potentially one of the bargain deals of the offseason.
Nice job overall!
Just out of curiosity, how do you feel about the Metsβ Jonathan Santucci? Obviously some outlets arenβt the biggest on him, but seemed to have a very solid year in performance and stuff. Probably on the aggressive side, but any consideration for this list, even on the fringe side?
Peredaβs the definition of a Quad-A catcher, but Ohlβs worth a shot, as his changeupβs notably above league average in both average implied miss and catching batters to swing too early.
Between than and his excellent walk rates, a team needs to pick him up to see what else can be drawn from him.
Itβll be interesting see if they try to improve Gasper behind the plate. Heβs not great there to begin with, but the bar to clear with the Nats is practically underground, and if he can improve to be tolerable behind the plate heβs likely a backup at worst.
Certainly worth a gamble, at least.
Okay, now thatβs just being mean.
At least they have a modicum of talent in something unlike Weiss. (Unless you count how fast sheβs ruined the reputation of CBS as a talent.)
That being said, key part will be how much do they utilize him as a pinch runner. If theyβre more aggressive on that front than they were under Snit, thatβll be where they get the most value from him.
19.01.2026 17:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Definitely fine for a signing. Not much to hope for offensively, but heβs another okay MIF option when the marketβs already limited, and heβs consistently been a strong baserunner.
Heβll work as the main backup infielder who shifts to the last bench guy once HSK returns.
Not surprised that he didnβt get a $5 million guarantee like last year, but even with injuries I wouldnβt have guessed heβd have to settle for a minors deal. (Sure, FIP was high, but he got screwed by Yankee Stadium on a few homers.)
13.01.2026 20:50 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Also improves the bench situation if Shaw moves there, because while the lineup has its strengths, the bench hasnβt exactly looked pretty this offseason. Hell, up until this move, Roster Resource had Scott Kingery projected to the majors bench because they werenβt exactly flush with options.
11.01.2026 14:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Plus, at a $4.25 million guarantee even with the buyout factored in, definitely a fine price to handle even if everything goes wrong with him.
10.01.2026 21:33 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Absolutely great that heβs back to add some solidity to the bullpen.
Obviously had good luck going his way during his Braves stint, but his sliderβs good at avoiding too much contact in the zone despite how much heβs relied on it. As long as he relies on that, he should be fine overall.
Probably okay-ish as a guy to cycle through given his multi-inning ability and, more importantly, how his slider was a whiff machine in AAA last year.
That being said, probably ends up passing through waivers successfully at some point before Opening Day.
Command is completely shot, but fastball/sweeper combo was solid at getting whiffs in AAA, and changeup had encouraging signs in 2023 with its underlying attack direction. Definitely worth a shot.
Brujanβs DFA highlights how the final bench spot probably needs better candidates, though.
Well, looks like theyβll have to wait a bit longer to add to that historyβ¦
03.01.2026 18:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0No reason he shouldnβt be claimed and given a chance in Spring Training. Yes, his command has been bad, but his fastball/slider combo has been excellent at getting whiffs in the zone, especially the former pitch.
Would love to see the Braves take a flier on him.
Whacks lefties just fine, and his Savant page actually is okay-ish given his overall production. Probably nothing comes of it, but definitely worth a shot.
02.01.2026 20:07 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Fair point re: Robert, though itβs worth pointing out theyβve been better at trading players outside of him in the past couple years. Plus, the βgood trade chipβ part was with the qualifier of him generally panning out to begin with.
21.12.2025 16:13 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 02/34. Makes him a good extension candidate if he pans out, a good trade chip if he works but canβt agree on an extension, and White Sox books are still basically clear post-2027 if he bombs.
21.12.2025 15:41 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Plus, even if he completely bombs, the contract being a two-year deal means they still have zero guaranteed money on the books after 2027.
Personally wary about how heβll do with the whiffs, but between the contract terms and roster fit, hard to really find fault with this deal. Worthwhile gamble.
Sure, why not? Worst case, they cut him without too much cost, and if he pans out then it bolsters the penβs depth. Makes sense especially given their focus over the years on high-whiff breakers.
20.12.2025 10:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0As someone on the very optimistic side of him, what I like is combo of how the pitches looks out of hand and the drastically different areas that his 4S/SI/SL combo work in. (Plus, worth pointing out both PitchingBot and Stuff+ also like the locations of the sinker and slider.)
19.12.2025 17:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Obviously Strahm is the big name here, but definitely watch what the Phillies do with Bowlan and his fastball/slider combo. Wouldnβt be surprised with a Ronny Henriquez-type breakout with him if they tweak his pitch usage to lean more on his whiff ability.
19.12.2025 15:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Nah, Bowlanβs got a great fastball/slider combo thatβs been great at getting whiffs, itβs just a matter of turning that more effectively into strikeouts, which the Royals arenβt the best at.
Definitely can see a Ronny Henriquez-type breakout with him this season.
