A counter to this - a few times recently i've gone to local chain stores to find something, determined not to just buy it online. Gone to the shop, asked a member of staff for an item, and got told they don't have any and to just order it online.

I want to help shops, but they don't make it easy!

Playing a gig. Final song ends in feedback and noise. I attempt to throw my guitar in a rock star manner. The strap cathes on something, swings round and smacks me on the head. I come off stage bleeding.

Friend asks what happened. I explain.

Grizelda aka Grizzles, a long haired tortoiseshell cat, lying on her back in my partner's arms, gazing at the camera in a manner that can only be called 'coquettish'. The belly is exposed. You may think this is an invitation to touch the belly. You would be a fool.

Earlier this week, we had to say goodbye to our cat Grizelda. I know everyone thinks their pet is special, but she really was a special cat. I have never known an animal with such character, such sass, and such ability to immediately win you over. If she wanted to. This will be a long thread.

A very young cherry tree, planted in soil in a back garden and surrounded by rocks. Probably unclear on the photo, but the front stone had 'Grizelda: 2011-2025' scratched onto it.

Thank you Grizzles. You were, without question, the bestest cat.

Grizzles just after moving into her last house, where she spent the last 3 or so years. She's in one of her favourite spots, looking out over the back garden through a bay window. She has he back to the camera and is sitting on the back of a sofa surrounded by boxes. It's a bright, cloudy day and you can see chimneys and a phone line in the background. She still spent most of her time in the house with us, but this felt like the place where she was finally able to relax. This is how I'll remember her.

This Monday we found out that what we thought was stress was actually an incredibly aggressive, advanced cancer. She had days to live.

We had to put her to sleep on Thursday. We did so at home, and have buried her in our back garden. Today we put a cherry tree there to remember her.

Grizzles sat on a patio table on a summer's day. There is a lawn behind her and she is surrounded by chairs, but she's looking directly into the camera, knowing she's being watched.

She did not get on with other animals. I have a photo somewhere of her staring down a fox in our back yard in London, and she nearly got carried away by a seagull in the garden pictured here.

(A Dundee seagull mind you, and those things are huge)

But she was kind, and caring, and she was family.

A rare photographic example of LONG CAT. She wasn't actually that big underneath the fluff - there was just a lot of it. That said, when she wanted to, you could always be amazed at how big she could make herself. One of her many nicknames was 'Inspector Grizzles', as she would insist on inspecting every corner of a new place or object. Yes, we did sing the theme tune.

We realised this at 6am when we got up. We surveyed the damage, and a proud, unapologectic cat. looked at each other, and simultanously went.

"...maybe she did get into the guinea pig's cage after all?"

Suddenly, her name felt even more fitting.
