I have always been the quiet one, the nice librarian, the smiley TA.
Writing horror and loving heavy metal has been so at odds with how people perceive me that it has long been my rebellion. I loved seeing kids faces when they found out!

I have a collection of Christmas stories called YULETIDE THRILLS. Starts light and gets dark. I tell everyone else to start at the beginning and stop when it gets too dark, but y'all should start at the end and stop when it gets too light.

That's the truth. My stories are a way to resist & to counter the cruel "vibe shift" in current culture. The kind of atmosphere that dominates the other place is the kind I resist, & my protagonists are often underdogs who overcome & triumph against their oppressors.

Horror is a way for me to process my own fears and anxieties and, aptly, grief. I’ve gotten through some dark times in my life through my writing. I hope my words can bring comfort to others who have experienced similar darkness.

Many of the darker elements of my sleep paralysis & dreams have been woven into my stories. In particular, my novella 'See You Later' was entirely inspired by my night terrors. Writing-wise, I have already met my dream by publishing some stories and attracting a few readers.🙏

Some pieces I write only for myself, channeling rage or whatever feelings I'm overwhelmed by.
Writing can be my therapy, and at those times I'm in complete control and the world cannot intrude without my permission.
Rebellion imo is denying what the world seeks to impose on us

Writing horror is this for me. I tell the stories of those who have been silenced. I point fingers at those who have positioned themselves beyond reproach. My stories might be fiction, but they speak to an uncomfortable reality. Telling the truth is the ultimate act of rebellion.

I had a dream about one of my "Good Bones" characters being deep underwater and trying to fight her way to the surface. I figured that if my brain was just going to GIVE me something like that I had to use it, so it's in the manuscript.

I really enjoy tackling taboos - BUT in the service of a greater good. Not just for the sake of it. I want to shake the reader up, cause discomfort, so that I can go on to say ‘now that I have your attention…’

We should be transgressive, people! It’s in the job description.

I write books. I write books no one will ever read. I have a stack of books almost half a Martin tall. If this isn't an act of rebellion against big ink then I don't know what is.
