those little square foil packets that are like a single-use bag with coffee grounds? Those are pretty good yeah. If it's the stuff in the lobby, hotels usually have alright brands, but usually make pots at like 5 AM and just leave them on in the heaters; so they taste bad because they're burned

not quite sure how to feel that "the government should be competent and professional at doing whatever Stuff it does" being lib-coded is perhaps the central problem of US politics. Sure is a Large problem

premise: a spaceship crash lands in the ocean and is just floating there and a Coast Guard cutter investigates. Turns out that its some space pirate junker and it devolves into a shootout

I can never get over how his face, his eyebrows, just look Like That. The old myth about an expression getting stuck if you kept it on your face too long, and it came true for him

Yeah like, the question of "okay, what are the right tactics to do that" is a substantially more complicated question, which I think is where a lot of the breakdown is happening

In as much as politicians generally try to keep campaign promises, I think the theory is to get promises for Retribution

I want to say that the Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens were quite nice, but (1) this is from a memory better than 20 years old and (2) maybe February is not such a great time for botanical gardens

I mutter "hidden, poorly internally labeled fiat account" whenever I like, find a fiver stuffed forgotten in my coat pocket

This is maybe inside baseball but! The thing is the food dev lab guys get very bored validating incremental changes to existing recipes, so they kinda go crazy when they get the chance to try something new

Better than 900 bucks of work on the car's AC, but the 10-year extended warranty runs out in April, so squeaking in right at the end of the coverage period here. Whew

I feel like "math & physics is objective, and the humanities are subjective" is true as far as it goes, but like, "so? Does that matter" is also a part of that self-same subjectivity

I think they should make the HOF votes be jury duty for everybody that bought a ticket to one of the games. That would be good, or at least funny

Very funny to be like "what? It seems totally normal to put 'Olive Oil' on your resume. I can easily think of a dozen different reasons to do that" and then remember "right, maybe this guy doesnt work in food production engineering"

I'm pretty pro-dog, but my best friend has remarkably severe dog allergies, which colors my opinions more towards "try to keep dogs out of generally public spaces please"

I mean like, "the Harry Potter books are not fantasy per se, the are Boarding School Adventure Novels with fantasy dressing" is I think a good way to consider them, and they succeeded by being good at the Boarding School Adventure genre

I remember finishing the last book and and my strongest thought during the epilogue was "he named his kid Albus Severus Potter? This kid's initials are ASP with all the absurd on-the-nose naming? The boy is absolutely going to grow up to be some kind of snake-themed Dark Wizard or something"

One thing that was really interesting to me was learning that English Boarding School Houses are a real thing, and serve essentially the same function as grouping in like, middle schools. Its a way to split them into administrative blocks for scheduling and intramural teams

I feel like there's a reasonable chance that ICE shoves a player into a detention center for a few days, and that would definitely make the players think twice about putting up with All This

gonna challenge the idea that cheerleaders wear more revealing outfits than what the Wizard is used to. He's showing just as much leg as any cheerleader with how short he keeps his robes cut

ZERZAN: We have trained this computer on 10,000 highway regulations to write the best laws

ZERZAN: We were so enamored with what it could do, we forgot to ask what it should do

I feel like it's often a "have your cake and eat it" problem, where the writing wants to use time pressure to build tension in the Main Quest, and meanwhile wants to have a bunch of fun Side Quests that be siloed off as separate little narratives you can do whenever
