Given that Thames water is probably the worst water company and it's repeated tired to build reservoirs, only to be blocked by local planning, I don't think the local public will ever support building reservoirs
The government will just have to give permission to build them and ignore locals

It doesn't matter who the targets are saying/implying someone who is English, isn't English (or British) because you find them repulsive isn't acceptable.
As for waving another county's flag, does this apply to all countries or just one?

As it happens I'm not a fan of Morgan McSweeney (although the fault always sits with the King, not his advisors)
18.11.2025 13:44 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
I'll leave you with this If Morgan McSweeney or Tony Blair had the same track record, would you be working this hard to explain it away?

I see the current Lib Dem position is that student debt is good, but asking anyone else to repay the state for costs they run up is bad
18.11.2025 13:28 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
This is some incredible mental gymnastics to avoid the much more obvious conclusion
18.11.2025 13:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
IMO the mural also isn't the worst example of that particular MP's 'issues' with antisemitism. The 'English Irony' rant was far worse.
A lot of people making one off (or rare) poor judgments, he made them all the time

Pensioners are the richest demographic in the country, so you are in favour of giving the rich more money.
The percentage of pensioners in poverty is small, and much more efficiently dealt with targeted welfare Vs giving the rich more money.
17.11.2025 15:43 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0
You listen to yourself, you are demanding that the super rich be taxed to give money to the rich. This would be a crazy activity for the state to undertake.
As others have explained, very few people like off just the state pension. They either claim other welfare or have another pension
17.11.2025 10:31 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
That's literally the wrong way round, pensioner bribery was a major part them staying in office despite their terrible record.
16.11.2025 22:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
Yes, plus Britain has much bigger occupational and private pensions than the typical development nation. The government offers generous tax breaks on both.
As for 'let get money of the billionaires', that's the unthinking man's 'solution'. Even if we could, that money should be spent elsewhere
16.11.2025 22:28 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
IDK, seems to me this 20 years to citizenship stuff is a substitute activity for the actual issue of being unable to make the changes that will lead to a higher percentage of criminals and failed asylum seekers being deported

I definitely agree that having key services rely on charities causes major issues. Donations to charities rare track the scale or importance of an issue.
14.11.2025 20:52 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
Is that what I said?
If you want to give money to a cat charity, that's your right but frankly don't kid yourself it's helping DV
14.11.2025 20:50 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
Yeah but it's not really getting to the heart of DV or mental health issues.
And given the number of animal charities that are pro XL bully, it's easy to make a case that donating to them is actively harmful
14.11.2025 20:40 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0
I want more people as owner occupiers but there will always be people that need to rent for 3 mths to 5 yrs. The state is never going to provide for them.
And buying up poor quality house to do up and then rent out is a business model that serves the economy.
14.11.2025 14:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0
To depress you further, I believe it's 1.5m.
The issue is they aren't artificially high. There is a shortage, like anything else, the price goes up.
A lot of housing is needed we should be getting on with and as radically as possible. If they go too far, that's a future government problem.
14.11.2025 13:59 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0
Across the world there is one thing that has consistency shifted things towards renters.
Building more housing. The government should reverse the watering down of it's planning bill, then review some of the building regulations, eg the requirements for double staircases.

Also there as been a pattern of U turns or part U turns, planning, welfare, winter fuel for rich pensioners. my sympathy has run out.
14.11.2025 09:31 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
Come on, you don't need conspiracy theories to explain it. They'd hardly be passing the renters rights' bill if they were in the pocket of Big Landlord.
Introducing new taxes is incredibly unpopular, the losers always notice much more than the winners

I'm shocked to discover that the issue with the Villa match wasn't the away fans.
But I kept reading on here that it was, but I thought this was the good site?
06.11.2025 20:57 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
I'd also argue that the British state and taxpayer have decided to make housing expensive, so it's only fair that they help the poorest pay their rents
03.11.2025 17:13 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
Even as someone that hates the moron, it's unacceptable to joke about deporting your political opponents. Particularly when you are trying to make a pro immigration point.

Not controversial but it is incorrect.
