I've looked at this in Nashville using ACS microdata for people 29 and under: scaling individual incomes by median home values over time, propensity to be "head of household" has been increasing within every income bin.

On the page details starting on page 18, total net cost of attendance (COA) is represented by the lines labeled "Net COA."

The total cost of attendance is also going down.

I'm not saying we should forget about them. The opposite, in fact. They are critical to the point I'm making: people who paid for their education back when education was more expensive paid more for that education than people today, who are paying less because education has gotten less expensive.

could be a matter of when your experience is from. I think privates led the way and proved the model, and then states started getting on board 15 years ago.

corporate media has not caught up and still crows about sticker prices that don't at all reflect typical students' bills.

the part of the report that covers what people are paying for college shows that what they are paying is going down, not up. and has been trending down for basically two decades.
