No one in my family read sci fi/fantasy so I just devoured what I could get my hands on. As weirdly restrictive as my mother was about absolutely everything else, I could check out anything from the library. My early reading habits were...erratic, including lots of my dad's Forsyth.

Yeah, probably very true. I weirdly managed to avoid reading it entirely until after I was out of school. Hazards of moving schools a lot.

I loved reading because my family made space for me to read things I wanted to, however goofy or serious or random. I don't read now, because being forced to read things for my degree broke my love of reading.
