Kind of sad that "counterspace weapon" was the most compelling use case that they could come up with, but I guess that's where the industry is at this point

Euclidean distance is a perfectly valid metric here, it just depends on what you want to do with it. You could also express the distance in a curvilinear coordinate system, which would give you (perhaps) more intuitive values like along-track and radial separation.

Presumably this also means more critical reporting and fewer articles that are essentially rewritten corporate press releases?

It's pretty funny to me that the entire commercial SSA industry spent years saying "look, we got this, just let us loose", and the government suddenly decided to listen and promptly misinterpreted the message altogether

Never mind - I misread. The projected miss distance was 75m, meaning the actual was presumably much higher given a maneuver

Drowning Doesn’t Look Like Drowning Drowning is not the violent, splashing call for help that most people expect.

Thanks for the reminder @janemunday.bsky.social. Every summer, I repost this article DROWNING DOES NOT LOOK LIKE DROWNING. To date, I know of FOUR kids who were saved after someone who'd clicked on the link learnt how to spot actual drowning. Take time to read and pass on.
