When a company in an industry built on hype tells you that a use case is a bad idea—and actually dangerous—that means it’s a *catastrophically* bad idea.

True story: you can go to the search function and type in the words "pay rent" and find dozens of people facing eviction posting each hour, for whom a small collection of strangers tossing $25 in the hat can mean the difference between a warm bed and the street, and reader, it feels so good to do.

People who wear light colored ANYTHING…same question.

(Also, she was really lovely to a friend of mine who was tabling with a self-published comic at a convention years ago, so she just keeps getting bonus points in my book.)

Truly. And that she recognizes how the impact of direct mutual aid is SO huge for the folks it helps—what that amount is doing and how quickly it is doing it makes such a difference, versus donating to a huge org with tons of obstacles to getting folks immediate help.

So many people in the industry don’t want their name next to their abuser in google searches & don’t want that persons name to be the first thing you think of when you hear theirs, and they ask friends to keep their mouths shut as a result. So if you hear someone is shitty or a predator, BELIEVE IT.

(But yeah, the burnout rate is something that we need to work on, along with people being able to pay their bills/get insurance.)

Yeah. I think something about support and burnout would be part of mine, too. A lot of what I’d want to tell myself is stuff that I actually had to change or build because it didn’t yet exist/wasn’t discussed when I started, though.

If I’m not mistaken, the creative team themselves have been saying this in interviews.

In light of everything, a reminder:

Relevant: this applies to new suppliers, but the impact matters — it decreases access. Especially for things like prosthetics or other devices that are using new tech, halting access means users are forced to rely on outdated, oversized, or unreliable devices when better solutions are available.

But even suppliers has the net impact of decreasing access. Particularly in the case of prosthetics, where technology means new companies regularly emerge with devices with new processors/features.

It’s suppliers, but ultimately, still has the same impact — decreasing access (it already takes over a month post-fitting to get a wheelchair…this slows it more).

It’s repulsive.
