Yes, it's a model that pretty explicitly cuts out investors. There is no getting rich, there is simply being able to make games until you retire and live a normal life without constant fear of what layoffs are coming around the corner. Or if the thing you are making is "marketable"

The Internet is a mess, and so stuff flows directly from I don't enjoy this game directly into you are all garbage. But criticism is vital to creativity. Vincke should figure that out. He probably won't. But he should.

I work in games and it really, really bothers me that we have conflated our self worth and value as humans, with how our work is received. Sure, bad faith takes are bullshit, but the work has to stand on its own and no one deserves praise because they tried hard. We are not owed good reviews.
