We are deeply saddened to share that Dr. George H. McCracken, one of the founding architects of the field of pediatric infectious diseases, passed away July 3 at the age of 89. Dr. McCracken was a founding PIDS member and served on the BOD twice. He was an icon, a mentor and friend.

We buried my father-in-law, George McCracken, this week. He was a legend in the field of pediatric infectious disease—when my wife introduced herself, our pediatrician said “Wait, is your dad…?”—and a beloved mentor, as well as a loving dad and adoring papa. Rest well, George.
