It’s really interesting seeing how true this has turned out to be in my case. I came from studying Russian misinformation and the unreality state that existed around Putin and the oligarchs. by the time 2017/18 came around it was clear that we were in the same spiral of state capture.

Newsom is kinda frustrating like if your favorite team's quarterback is overrated and sucks and would be better off replaced by his backup.

Cuomo is like if your quarterback was a secret agent for the other team and kept running the ball into his own endzone and also was murdering his teammates

New consumer sentiment data just out for April:

Americans’ expectations for how the economy will fare over the next year are now at their worst in 45 years.

Consumer confidence is down 40% since Trump’s inauguration, including a 20% drop among Republicans.

ICE director envisions Amazon-like mass deportation system: 'Prime, but with human beings' ICE officials describe Amazon-style deportation system at Border Expo, seeking private contractors to implement mass removal operations

β€œWe need to get better at treating this like a business,” Todd Lyons said, explaining he wants to see a deportation process β€œlike (Amazon) Prime, but with human beings.”

If only we had a historical precedent of a state rounding up 'undesirables' and shipping them just like a business moves freight

this is possible but another way to think of it is that if you're under 40 in China you hadn't experienced anything but growth until 2020. the appetite for eating bitterness for the sake of the nation is not that great, but the fuck you spirit at US actions is very real.

Notice to Stakeholders Temporary Enforcement Pause: Silica Rule Issued: April 8, 2025

Breaking: the Trump admin has β€œtemporarily” paused enforcement of a Biden-era silica rule that was aimed at combating the rising black lung crisis in Appalachia. Coal miners and their advocates have been fighting for *decades* to lower deadly silica dust exposure levels. www.msha.gov/notice-stake...

NYT needs to correct this disinformation right away. Its reporters are apparently clueless about what's actually going on out there. People with valid visas and green-card holders ARE ABSOLUTELY being deported right now for speech, and without criminal convictions.

Was doing an interview about solidarity networks and the labor movement and I eventually came to this point that is true:

Until people on the left are willing to be told what to do and take those orders and do the work and like it, we will never rebuild a functional left in this country.

The Court finds that maintaining the status quo is required to afford the parties the ability
to develop a fuller record for the Court to consider the request for a preliminary injunction and
other forms of relief, as presented in the Class Petition for Writ of Habeas Corpus, and to prevent
the immediate and irreparable injury that may occur with the immediate removal of any Venezuelan alien subject to the Proclamation. In addition, the Court finds that immediate and irreparable injury will result to the Petitioners before the Respondents can be heard in opposition, thus requiring the consideration and issuance of this temporary restraining order ex parte.
Accordingly, pursuant to Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 65, it is ORDERED THAT:
Respondents are enjoined from transferring, relocating, or removing J.A.V., J.G.G., W.G.H., or any other person that Respondents claim are subject to removal under the Proclamation, from the El Valle Detention Center; and
Respondents are enjoined from transporting such persons outside of Willacy County or
Cameron County, Texas, without an Order from the Court.
This Temporary Restraining Order shall expire on the earlier of 5:00 p.m. (central time)
on Tuesday, April 23, 2025, or by Order of the Court.

Deeply weird seeing people try to paint the protests in South Korea as family friendly parties when the one that stopped the original coup featured girls doing karate moves on riot cops and guys in the legislature spraying special forces units with fire extinguishers

Moreover, ICE must be destroyed

Protests are powerfully for a number of reasons, solidarity, hope, optimism, etc

But more importantly they give people permission to act and continue to grow into actions that are diverse and far ranging in scope and scale.

Giving people the chance to find their own permission to act is good.

If Palestine is the litmus test everybody has failed it, so it's not a surprise the West is in a dire State. The same men bombing brown & Black people indiscriminately will also snatch your white elderly Mom's social security. That's why fighting for rights can't be selective. Everybody or nobody.
