I hope this story gets some attention. The Municipal Act is very specific about the criteria for closed sessions and if that is being abused democratic accountability is at stake. There are enough secrets already. If we don’t get to hear their debates and discussion we’ll truly be in the dark.

I gotta say, all the men insisting enthusiastic, ongoing, vocalized, contemporaneous consent for each individual sexual act is not reasonably obtainable are really telling on themselves.
To be honest, I have, on occasion, been told to keep it down.

Lower levels of entitlement are clearly also a problem, but she might be onto something in terms of how entitlement can become pathological in a very particular, harmful and obsessive way that is also profoundly resistant to change.

I became aware of this important story through Eastern Ontario Wardens' Caucus' posting from the Rural Healthy Democracy Forum where "Elect Respect" was soft launched. Many thanks to Bonnie Clark, Joy Lachica and Carolyn Amyotte (She/Her) for taking time to be interviewed by Megan Gallant.

What I don’t hear are specifics about One City’s perceived shortcomings. What are the outcomes they think could be better delivered? You can’t audit β€œI think that those people believe things about homelessness that don’t fit my politics.”

So much for the theory that Amy BC isn’t as ideologically captive as she first appeared.

Here we are: fighting tooth and nail, year after year, for the most basic community funding : the arts, housing, shelter etc…

I guess it’s a Strong Mayor’s world and we’re all just living in it Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

Delighted to be appointed to the Agricultural and Agri-food Committee.

As a farmer, I will champion the riding of Peterborough and Canada's farmers, who have been long-standing pillars of Canada's economy.

"We are devastated and heartbroken at the loss of our parents, Melissa and Mark. They were the bright lights at the center of our lives, and we can't believe they are gone. Their love for us was boundless. We miss them so much.
"We want everyone to know that we are both safe and with loved ones. We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support we have received, and we appreciate your respect for our family's privacy as we grieve.
"Our family would like to thank law enforcement for their swift action that saved others and for the coordination across communities that led to the arrest of the man who murdered our parents. We especially would like to thank the officers who were first on the scene to our parents' home and their heroic attempts to rescue our mom and dad.
"Our parents touched so many lives, and they leave behind an incredible legacy of dedication to their community that will live on in us, their friends, their colleagues and co-workers, and every single person who knew and loved them.
"If you would like to honor the memory of Mark and Melissa, please consider the following:
β€’ Plant a tree.
β€’ Visit a local park and make use of their amenities, especially a bike trail.
β€’ Pet a dog. A golden retriever is ideal, but any will do.
β€’ Tell your loved ones a cheesy dad joke and laugh about it.
β€’ Bake something β€” bread for Mark or a cake for Melissa, and share it with someone.
β€’ Try a new hobby and enjoy learning something.
β€’ Stand up for what you believe in, especially if that thing is justice and peace.
"Hope and resilience are the enemy of fear. Our parents lived their lives with immense dedication to their fellow humans. This tragedy must become a moment for us to come together. Hold your loved ones a little closer. Love your neighbors. Treat each other with kindness and respect. The best way to honor our parents' memory is to do something, whether big or small, to make our community just a little better for someone else."

I voted against the Library cuts and moved a successful motion recently, for staff to report to Council about the restructuring.

There was a media release today from the City β€” and I’d expect more to come.

Thanks to the community for showing up on this, it’s made all the difference.

What she experienced is finally coming out publiclyβ€”I was there. And it was bad. Despite the mayor’s statement today, he is not the victim here. The Integrity Commissioner’s findings are clear

We can’t let carefully worded statements downplay what happened

I’ve tried to build my life on the Ten Commandments.

But forcing teachers to post the Ten Commandments violates the most important commandment: love thy neighbor.

The dominant culture of the legal profession is one of huge privilege. I have seen lawyers claim the entitlement to talk jovially about the mundane while others are going through the hardest experiences of their lives. Empathy and emotional intelligence have little value in spaces they control.
