Canada Post โlostโ 1 billion dollars last year?
How about, โit cost Canadians 1 billion dollars to have a national postal serviceโ which works out to costing about $25 a year per person (population of Canada in 2024 = 40 million). Seems like a pretty reasonable cost to me.
The government will take all the recommendations of William Kaplan to cut back Canada Post, but wonโt accept any meaningful recommendations from the union to bolster the service and think about the many ways it could improve quality of life for Canadians.
26.09.2025 00:52 โ ๐ 70 ๐ 17 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 2Minister Lightbound says itโs time for tough choices, but his choices are not about bolster the service, but cutting it back. Other choices could be made: allowing and building out postal banking or recognizing a public service does not need to be profitable, as an example.
25.09.2025 18:37 โ ๐ 182 ๐ 29 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 1The government is reducing service standards and Canada Postโs biggest advantage: its nationwide network.
This plan is about cutting back the postal service instead of investing to give it new revenue tools through things like postal banking. Itโs shameful.
Tell me the last time a highway made money, the last time a school made money, the last time a hospital made money.
They don't. They are public services.
Let me be clear. As someone who has been professionally involved with the biodefense / biosecurity sector for nearly 20 years, and has worked on biological risk analysis for Covid-19 since early 2020, reducing one's risk of being infected is not health anxiety. It's just smart.

Healthy indoor air is a key tool for preventing pandemics, building climate resilience, and increasing health equity. We need it everywhere!
