Canada Post โ€œlostโ€ 1 billion dollars last year?

How about, โ€œit cost Canadians 1 billion dollars to have a national postal serviceโ€ which works out to costing about $25 a year per person (population of Canada in 2024 = 40 million). Seems like a pretty reasonable cost to me.

The government will take all the recommendations of William Kaplan to cut back Canada Post, but wonโ€™t accept any meaningful recommendations from the union to bolster the service and think about the many ways it could improve quality of life for Canadians.

Minister Lightbound says itโ€™s time for tough choices, but his choices are not about bolster the service, but cutting it back. Other choices could be made: allowing and building out postal banking or recognizing a public service does not need to be profitable, as an example.

The government is reducing service standards and Canada Postโ€™s biggest advantage: its nationwide network.

This plan is about cutting back the postal service instead of investing to give it new revenue tools through things like postal banking. Itโ€™s shameful.

They don't. They are public services.

Let me be clear. As someone who has been professionally involved with the biodefense / biosecurity sector for nearly 20 years, and has worked on biological risk analysis for Covid-19 since early 2020, reducing one's risk of being infected is not health anxiety. It's just smart.

People signing the Global Pledge for Healthy Indoor Air at the UN

Yesterday, history happened at the UN: For the first time hundreds of orgs signed a global pledge declaring that healthy indoor air is a human right.

Healthy indoor air is a key tool for preventing pandemics, building climate resilience, and increasing health equity. We need it everywhere!

After 180 Years of Pain, Dutch Women Engineers Reimagine the Speculum with โ€˜Liliumโ€™ Dutch engineers redesign the speculum with Lilium; a soft, sustainable, patient-centered innovation set to transform womenโ€™s healthcare.

Itโ€™s only taken a century or so, but would you look at that, some badass women have invented a better solution to the speculum (which is essentially a torture device).

Exactly! If every light were dimmable, I would be happy. Most of the fixtures here have 3 bulbs. The chandelier in the dining room has 36โ€ฆ (I only dropped one bulb, and swore while cleaning up little shards of glass) Hope all goes well and congrats on the new place!

The Canadian Standards Association (CSA) has released a draft standard requiring masks (like N95s) in health care settings to stop airborne infections.

There is a strong attempt to push back against this, so need your public comments to get this through: publicreview.csa.ca/Home/View/22...

Are the frames plastic or metal? Any chance renting a metal detector would help? Not that Iโ€™d know where to rent one, or how much that might cost. Plus the frames would have to be ferromagnetic.
