Republicans need to act now to make sure those benefits are available to people who depend on them. If they donโ€™t, millions of children, seniors, and low-income Americans will go hungry ahead of the holidays.

A professor friend says some capstone students want to do a story on the importance of accessibility in designing/redesigning stadiums, given how much money is spent. He's looking for interested outlets.

Cost to fund SNAP and keep 42 million people from starving:

$100 billion

Cost of lost revenue due to tax cuts for the richest Americans in the top 1%:

$100 billion

One is decried as "welfare." One is not.

Why?

Have you tried the trick where you start naming things that begin with the letter A, name as many as you can think of, then go to the next letter. I usually pick fruits/vegetables. Asparagus, Applesโ€ฆ Beets, Bananasโ€ฆ Most nights I might make it to K (Kiwis, Kaleโ€ฆ) sometimes I get to Z and start over.

Canada Post โ€œlostโ€ 1 billion dollars last year?

How about, โ€œit cost Canadians 1 billion dollars to have a national postal serviceโ€ which works out to costing about $25 a year per person (population of Canada in 2024 = 40 million). Seems like a pretty reasonable cost to me.

The government is reducing service standards and Canada Postโ€™s biggest advantage: its nationwide network.

This plan is about cutting back the postal service instead of investing to give it new revenue tools through things like postal banking. Itโ€™s shameful.

Let me be clear. As someone who has been professionally involved with the biodefense / biosecurity sector for nearly 20 years, and has worked on biological risk analysis for Covid-19 since early 2020, reducing one's risk of being infected is not health anxiety. It's just smart.

Healthy indoor air is a key tool for preventing pandemics, building climate resilience, and increasing health equity. We need it everywhere!
