I imagine them very awkward and angsty and giving each other lots of longing looks while the other person isn't looking.

sorry, realizing that my second comment didn't acknowledge what you'd already said about Capamame. My feeling is that their connection was more obvious to those around them than they thought!

But of course, I am open to reader interpretations as well!

Masar would have seen them together, and though he might not have assumed they were lovers, he's intuitive enough to grasp that there was something intense between them. (3/3)

He senses a ferocious devotion that reminds him of how he feels about his own lovers. Also, remember that Chono and Six were in Capamame for 9 months before returning to the Treble. (2/?)

Hi! I'm so glad you're enjoying the series! Your research sounds really interesting. Re: this line, I wouldn't say that Masar is assuming a sexual relationship. Rather, he's reacting to the intensity of her behavior here (1/?)

The Kindom trilogy by @dr-bethany-jacobs.bsky.socialΒ  concludes with This Brutal Moon, which comes out this December. This is hands down one of the best SF series I've read in the last 10 years. If you haven't read the first two yet, what are you waiting for?! @orbitbooks.bsky.social

Hah! 100%. This is canon.

I have no idea! I intentionally never decided for myself what they look like. We know that they are changeable, and on the face, but nothing else!

That's very similar to our own culture, if you think about it! People freak out if they don't know your gender. It's the same in the Treble. For Six, concealment serves their murky purposes, because if you can't gender them, it's harder to identify them!

I hope this is helpful! Follow ups welcome!

23.10.2025 20:03 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 1

In this culture, gender assignation literally determines one's humanity (think of Alisiana calling Six "it" or the way kinschool children are denied gender until graduation). For someone to make their gender indistinct is for them to defy the norms of this culture. (2/3)

Hello, Mel! Thank you for your patience. This is a wonderful question! In Six's case, the "taboo" is that Six's gender mark signals ambiguity. Because it is faint and hard to read at a distance, someone could see or meet Six and not automatically know their gender. (1/2)

Hi everyone. Looking for recs on books about #livingwithdisability. My sister is recently disabled with neuro issues. This may be chronic or permanent. I would love to find her accessible own voices to help her process her grief, anger, and fear. Any ideas?

The amazing @voidcricket.bsky.social's sophomore novel AN UNBREAKABLE WORLD is out now. I was honored to get to read an advanced copy, and if you love a world that feels historically rich, complex and messy and lived in, as well as heist plots and multiple timelines, you gotta get it.

Hi, there. No, the Jeveni aren't a direct metaphor for Jewish or Palestinian people. That said, when writing the books I was influenced by a lot of communities, including African slaves, indigenous people, trans people, Armenians and yes, Jews and Palestinians.

This has been absolutely worth the wait from @inkstonebooks.bsky.social I really enjoyed the first book in The Kindom Trilogy. And it’s awesome that book 3 is slated for December.

In this flyer, a banner at the top displays the Seattle WorldCon 2025 logo, which has a Jetson's vibe with a teal background and three four-point yellow stars. The banner reads "Building Yesterday's Future for Everyone." I don't know what that means. On the left of the fly is a picture of me! I’m sitting with hands clasped against a rocky backdrop. I have blue hair and I’m wearing a black blazer, gray button-up and jeans. I’m wearing black-rimmed glasses and smiling. To the right is the schedule of my WorldCon events. Please see my website, https://www.bethany-jacobs.com/events for the full schedule of events!
