"Artists peak at 30", "30 under 30", "by 30 you should" ridiculous. Arts industries capital craves young people to exploit and burn out. It doesn't want older artists thriving and guiding the young. It also doesn't want artists to exist. Stop letting cannibals tell you you only matter on a plate.

Your work comes up sometimes in conversations in my house, and I've been using they/them. I will switch to he/him. You have every right to decide who you are.

I ask myself if this week really has been so heavy, or if it's just menopause. Then I remember it can be both.

There are many things I love about the information age – ease of research for obscure topics primary among them

But I don’t believe the human psyche was made to endure ongoing awareness of this much sustained cruelty & injustice

Bitter Consolation By Richard H. Fay Being told you now exist in a better place Be bitter consolation for my dreadful loss. Perhaps this eulogizing priest should share A caring thought for those of us you left behind. No longer shall my toilsome life be graced With your sweet smiles and kindly words. No longer shall my work-worn body be soothed By the warmth of your touch and tender caresses. Promises of paradise be fine for Sunday sermons, But they do little to comfort the grieving. Pledges of spiritual reunion beyond the veil Do nothing to lift up my grief-stricken soul. The truth of the matter is that you are gone; No hollow words of comfort will bring you back. If there be a Heaven and you be residing there, Then you remain heart-wrenchingly out of reach.

I know my poetry often explores the darker side of emotions, but there is plenty of emotion in my works. Take, for instance, my fairly recent piece "Bitter Consolation". I like to think that one is quite emotive!

In Praise of Cheap, Ugly Yarn When everything else was scraps, you were an affordable brand new skein. Something that I could look forward to - days spent stitching joy around the pain. Always a safe choice for trying to broaden experience and learn skill, surviving ripping out and starting anew when everything started to head downhill. Being snobbish is a luxury that I could not always afford. When money created a boundary, you made sure crafting did not go ignored. Things are okay for me (depends on what level you're looking at, but let's go with it), but it's also just not an easy week. I know, I know... it hasn't been a whole week. If the next few days get easier, I'll be taking time off to just enjoy it.

My day started with joy! A family member is so happy with the books I gave them for their birthday that they hugged the books!

Was it really a good idea to start knitting another blanket?

Yes. Knitting is something I do for emotional regulation and mental health. If a blanket comforts me right now, a blanket I shall knit.

I should have taken a picture of the skein of yarn I just spent over an hour untangling. It would put to rest any rumors about me not having any patience.

Everything's been kind of "off" for a few days, so we're thinking that last seizure had a more lasting effect than they usually do. Nothing to be worried about, and I am in communication with my doctor, but I need to do more resting.
