I bought the home server initially to store digital copies of all my old DVDs so I can stream them anywhere in the house. Being able to sync my calendar and contacts through my own home server instead of through Google would be great though

I should note, none of this is malware. These are all free/open source software with basic functions such as "finance planner" or "calendar" or "password manager". And I just bought a home server, so the more I can ditch Google and other big name tech services, the better.

I searched my computer for any pre-installed applications that could rip DVDs and it turns out I have something like 60 applications I didn't know were installed on my computer. What a delightful way to waste time, piddling with surprise software.
