I made a “how do you do, fellow kids?” joke to someone in their mid 20s who, it turns out, was too young to have heard of that meme.

So “how do you do, fellow kids?” is now an example of “how do you do, fellow kids?”

seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

They're mad at her for being right YEARS before they even realized such as thing was possible in the US. Even in my personal experience at much lower stakes, being right about warnings a long time in advance makes one's "social betters" (especially bosses) who catch on later peculiarly resentful.

40 years ago we’d have congressional hearings falsely accusing metal bands of putting backwards messages in their songs that told kids to kill themselves & now we have a planet-killing chatbot that’s all like “bet you won’t commit suicide chickenshit bitch” & the government is like here’s $5 billion

Sure, but did those 400,000 dead children consider that we were told Harris was going not be hard enough on Israel?

Every American needs to know what is being done in the name of our safety and prosperity. I don't personally feel safer or more prosperous by torturing people, but Stephen Miller does.

The Latest (in New York Times Opinion): Did Women Ruin the Workplace? NOVEMBER 6, 2025

Imagine, if you will, this headline with the word “Jews” substituted for the word “women”:

“Did Jews Ruin the Workplace?”

Disgusting, right?

Well, it’s just as disgusting that this is an acceptable question to debate about women.

The misogyny is staggering — and so normal.

Still.

Photo of NBC’s exit poll data (from my work laptop, lol) showing Mamdani splitting the straight vote equally with Cuomo, but taking the LGBTQ+ vote by more than 5:1. Even though the LGBTQ+ slice is only 14% of the population, they were a LANDSLIDE in his favor.

This needs more attention: Zohran SPLIT the straights with Cuomo. ALL of his margin was from LGBTQ+ voters. Every Dem who ever said “we should abandon the transes” needs this shoved down their fucking throat with a ramrod.

basically every 2024 truism is dead. Trump did not build a lasting multiracial coalition or turn young men into committed Republicans. You don’t need to cave on trans rights to win. The pundits have nothing left to tell you.

Extreme gerrymanders are very brittle, and susceptible to backfire during a wave election. Texas moved a bunch of people from safe districts to marginal-losing ones to tip them, but it made those safe districts marginal-winning districts at the same time. A wave can make that backfire spectacularly.

Dear Bill Gates,
If Trump loves your climate statement and you say he misunderstood it, and if climate scientists don't like your climate statement and you say they also misunderstood it, maybe the problem is your #climate statement.

Gen. Eric Shinseki told the Bush admin that to invade Iraq and have any hope of rebuilding it as a stable, prosperous, and free country the US would have to commit 400,000 troops to the occupation. Cheney and Rumsfeld wanted a smash and grab war of convenience done on the cheap, and dismissed him.

Louvre jewel heist by petty criminals, not organised professionals, says Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau said ‘upper echelons of organised crime’ unlikely to be involved as one perpetrator remains at large

Okay, so: once you’ve nicked £90m in assorted crown jewels from a national museum, I think it’s safe to say you no longer fall into the “petty crime” category even if you haven’t previously been noteworthy in your field.

No matter the platform you should have your default feed be reverse chron of who/what you follow and curate and diversify that feed.

You’ll be better informed and less prone to disinfo and group think.

This is a hill I will die on.

What was it that attracted that rich guy - the one who offered a masseuse a free horse, in payment for a handjob - to buying a website where everyone was talking about elite sex criminals, then filling it with Nazis denouncing feminism as a plot to destroy civilisation? Perhaps we will never know.

A massive, 26-YEAR-LONG study of MORE THAN 2.4 MILLION people in Sweden found found NO EVIDENCE to support a causal link between acetaminophen (the API in Tylenol) use during pregnancy and increased risk of autism, ADHD, OR intellectual disability in children.

A storm in a teacup!? An entire meteorological phenomenon, a fury of wind and fire and water, confined to an area that can be held in the palm of your hand!? And you think this is a matter of little consequence?

This is an extremely important point. Every bit of anti-science BS erodes the public's ability to discern fact from fiction. And now we have anti-vaxxers and climate science deniers and more running the government.
